Hello! I'm Isabel, and I am currently working towards my Bachelor's Degree in Violin Performance at the Eastman School of Music (at the University of Rochester). I am on the Dean's List for academic standing, and part of an undergraduate residence string quartet that was awarded funding for the 23-24 school year. Prior to my collegiate studies, I was a student at the Music Institute of Chicago Academy, an intense pre-college music program that provided significant experience and growth through local and regional music competitions, performances, lessons, and coachings from renowned faculty. Some of my musical highlights up to date include being invited to perform at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, recording a solo program on classical radio, and sharing music in local areas!
While I've only taught some adolescent students briefly one on one, my strong passion in music and extensive experience makes my understanding in technique and musicality second nature. Music has always been a major part of my life, and although my main focus now is the violin, I studied piano and music theory simultaneously for several years and later picked up the viola for chamber music. Having this varied array of musical education certainly allowed me to approach learning in a deeply curious and connective fashion, whether it be for music or succeeding in my academic classes. I would love to offer this learning approach of discovering how to relate and build one field of knowledge to another, ultimately to make learning a more satisfying and individualized process. In my musical journey and academic pursuits, I've embraced the value of being critical (in a healthy sense) and self-analytical; it has benefitted both my music practice sessions and my coursework, and has proven to be an essential trait towards self-improvement.
Besides practicing violin, I love learning languages and world cultures. I received the Spanish Seal of Biliteracy in my state and learned French as well in high school. I'd love to tutor anyone interested!
