Hi I'm Ray! I am in my first year of a Physics Master's Degree where I also teach several lab sections of intro college physics. I got my bachelor's in physics as well as a bachelor's in trumpet performance. I also completed a minor in math.
In the past 10 years, starting in high school, I have tutored for math up through calculus, taught individual music lessons, led recitation classes for college algebra, and tutored for a college astronomy course. The students I work with appreciate the time I take to work through new concepts and my encouragement for questions.
I understand that math and science can be especially daunting for students, and it's my goal to help students build the skills and the confidence to take on their coursework.
In a tutoring session, I usually like to see some of the material the student is working on for a class and take their questions first, but then once we have a feeling for what we want to work on, I can make example problems to either demonstrate or work through together. I always make sure throughout the process to avoid calling anything problem easy. I believe that struggling with one subject does not have to be a permanent curse, and avoiding discouraging thoughts and language is central to that.
I am happy to answer any questions you might have about tutoring or content, so please feel free to reach out.
