I have always maintained a strong academic foundation and a passion for helping others succeed in science-based subjects. I earned my Associate’s Degree in Arts from Heartland Community College by the time I graduated high school and went on to complete my Bachelor’s Degree in Interdisciplinary Science with an emphasis in Health and Pre-Medicine from the University of Iowa. I graduated with a 4.08 GPA and was a Dean’s List recipient throughout my undergraduate career. Since graduating, I have continued strengthening my knowledge of the biological sciences while preparing for the MCAT, on which I earned a 517, allowing me to maintain a deep, current, and application-based understanding of biology, chemistry, and related STEM coursework.

Over the past four years, I have been actively involved in mentoring and academic support across multiple environments, working with students ranging from kindergarten through college. As an Undergraduate Mentor for STEM majors at the University of Iowa, I helped college students navigate rigorous coursework and refine effective study strategies. As a Youth Development Leader with the Jule Foundation, I guide junior high and high school students through both academic progress and personal growth. Additionally, as a Healthy Life Stars Head Coach in Iowa City, I delivered engaging, age-appropriate lessons to elementary students, further expanding my experience with younger learners.

These experiences have shaped my tutoring approach to be personal, one-on-one focused, and adaptable. I strive to understand each student’s unique learning style, strengths, and areas for growth, tailoring sessions to meet them where they are. My goal is to create a supportive, flexible learning environment that builds confidence, strengthens foundational understanding, and promotes long-term academic success.

Approved Subjects

Common Core

Common Core

My experience as a Youth Development Leader with the Jule Foundation involved supporting elementary through high school students with math, reading, and writing instruction aligned with Common Core standards. I regularly worked one-on-one with students to strengthen foundational skills, guide them through problem-solving strategies, and help them explain their reasoning in written and verbal form. This role required adapting lessons to different learning levels while reinforcing the conceptual understanding emphasized by the Common Core State Standards. Through consistent tutoring and curriculum support, I helped students build confidence and measurable progress in core academic subjects.
Executive Functioning

Executive Functioning

While working with students at the Jule Foundation, I frequently supported learners who struggled with organization, concentration, and study habits - challenges often associated with conditions such as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder or other learning differences. In one-on-one tutoring sessions, I helped students develop practical executive functioning skills including time management, task planning, and structured study routines tied to their coursework. By breaking assignments into manageable steps and building systems for tracking deadlines and responsibilities, I helped students improve both academic performance and independence. This experience has equipped me to coach students in the cognitive and behavioral strategies that support strong Executive Functions.
High School Placement Test

High School Placement Test

As a high school graduate who has completed multiple rigorous standardized exams - including those taken during my undergraduate studies and most recently the MCAT - I have extensive experience with the structure, pacing, and strategies required to succeed on high-stakes tests. Through years of preparing for and taking standardized exams, I have developed effective test-taking techniques such as time management, question analysis, and strategic elimination that are directly applicable to high school placement tests. I also understand the academic skills these exams assess, including reading comprehension, quantitative reasoning, and problem-solving. My experience allows me to help students build both the subject knowledge and the confidence needed to perform well on placement exams.
Interview Prep

Interview Prep

I have extensive experience preparing for and participating in professional interviews, ranging from leadership positions to a variety of job opportunities. Over the past two years, I have also engaged in rigorous medical school interviews, gaining firsthand knowledge of high-stakes interview strategies and expectations. Beyond my own experience, I have informally coached peers to succeed in their professional interviews, helping them develop clear communication, confidence, and effective responses. This combination of personal experience and peer mentorship equips me to guide students through interview preparation with practical, actionable strategies.
MCAT

MCAT

I bring a deep, firsthand understanding of the MCAT, having taken the exam three times over a 1.5-year period and earning a 517. Preparing across multiple test cycles allowed me to master the core content while refining effective strategies for passage analysis, timing, and test-day mindset. My background in interdisciplinary science with a health/pre-med emphasis strengthens my ability to explain complex concepts clearly and efficiently. I focus on helping students build both content mastery and a sustainable study approach tailored to their individual strengths and challenges.
Personal Statements

Personal Statements

I have extensive experience drafting and revising personal statements, having developed my own medical school applications over the past two years. In addition, I have peer-reviewed and provided constructive feedback on personal statements for classmates, friends, and fellow pre-professional students, helping them strengthen clarity, voice, and impact. My undergraduate coursework in literature and composition has given me a strong foundation in writing, critical analysis, and storytelling, allowing me to guide students in crafting compelling and polished statements. This combination of personal experience and formal training equips me to help students present their achievements and goals effectively.
Sociology

Sociology

My academic background provides a strong foundation for tutoring sociology concepts and theory. I completed coursework in Introduction to Sociology at the University of Iowa, where I developed an understanding of key sociological perspectives and the ways social structures influence behavior, institutions, and inequality. I further strengthened this knowledge while preparing for the Medical College Admission Test, which required extensive study of sociological principles related to social behavior, culture, and health disparities. Through my Pre-Med Liberal Arts bachelor’s degree and related coursework, I gained a broad interdisciplinary perspective that allows me to clearly explain sociological concepts and help students connect theory to real-world social dynamics.
Special Needs

Special Needs

I worked as a Life Skills Trainer at NeuroRestorative, supporting adolescents with neurological and behavioral disorders, including ADHD and autism spectrum disorder, as well as a wide range of other special needs. In this role, I provided individualized support with daily living tasks, academic skill-building in reading and writing, and executive functioning development. I helped students strengthen organization, communication, emotional regulation, and independent problem-solving skills. My experience allows me to combine patience, structure, and practical strategies to help students build confidence and achieve meaningful progress.

Amazing Tutor, so grateful!

It’s been amazing working with Q! I’m getting ready to take my MCAT for the second time now and he already has me feeling more comfortable with passages and his methods have helped me trust myself more. He even went out of his way to help me build a study plan! 5⭐️

Great Tutor- Organic Chem 1

Quentin helped me through learning some topics before my Organic Chem 1 midterm. He made it look easy and helped me understand the topics better than my teacher could explain it. Overall, he is great and would recommend again in the future!
