Hi, I'm Cielo, a Biology major at Saint Mary's (Notre Dame). Through my time in college I've discovered that tutoring is one of my favorite things to do. I specialize in Biology and Spanish tutoring for K–12 students and college undergraduates, and I bring real, varied experience to every session.
I've built a strong foundation in life sciences including microbiology, cell biology, and general biology. I'm also a fully fluent, bilingual Spanish speaker. English and Spanish are both my native languages, so Spanish tutoring feels natural and conversational rather than mechanical.
I've been in teaching and mentoring roles for several years in college. As a Microbiology Teaching Assistant, I supported college-level students in understanding complex lab concepts, clarified lecture material, and guided students through assignments in both one-on-one and small group settings. As a group tutor, I've led collaborative study sessions adapting explanations to meet different learning styles. Whether a student learns best with personalized attention or in a group dynamic, I can meet them there.
I believe the best tutoring happens when a student feels comfortable enough to say "I have no idea what's going on", because that's where real learning starts. My sessions are low-pressure, conversational, and built around the student's actual gaps, not a one-size-fits-all script. For Biology, I focus on conceptual understanding first, connecting material to real-world examples and helping students reason through answers rather than just recall them, which is especially effective for students who struggle on exams despite feeling like they studied. For Spanish, I tailor sessions to the student's goal, whether that's grammar foundations, conversational fluency, reading comprehension, or test prep. Being a native-level bilingual speaker means I can navigate both the technical rules and the natural, everyday way the language actually sounds.
