Hi! I’m Divya. I work as a public health consultant on contracts with UN agencies, CDC, the DOD, and other smaller organizations. I have a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Illinois and a Master of Public Health from the University of Michigan (GO BLUE!). Writing has been an instrumental component of all my work, and I have written articles, website content, research papers, federal and international reports, and much more! I really love writing, and I enjoy even more teaching others to write. Tutoring is something I do largely because it is a passion of mine. Through the years I have worked with students mostly by word of mouth. I had one or two students on Wyzant in 2017 or 2018 when I was new to tutoring but now, I retain 7 years of experience working with students of all ages. For the last 4 years or so I have been working a lot with foreign medical graduates applying to match US residency programs. I have helped 20-30 people match in a highly competitive environment. I have also helped another 20 or so students get into their top choice college programs. In addition to this, I have reviewed research papers, high school essays, and really anything anyone needs help with. I have trained students to improve their English class essay writing and done some SAT/ACT training mainly on the writing portion. I rejoined Wyzant to vary my client base some more.

In terms of my own application experience, I was accepted into two Ivy League programs in my field for graduate school and the number one program in the country with less experience and training than the average candidate applying. I ultimately chose to attend Michigan on a 50% tuition scholarship.

Over the last eight years, I have worked with students of all ages from college applicants to foreign medical residency applicants. I have helped 50 people get into their top choice programs all around the country. In the process of doing this, I have also helped students determine the best fit based on their interests. I offer insights based on my own experience and the experience of friends and colleagues on size, rankings, and opportunities at each type of institution.

I am also someone who has lived all over the world and have often had to learn other languages myself, so I understand the struggle. I have been working with people from all over Africa for the last 5 years helping them write personal statements and train for interviews in English. I've been working with foreign medical graduates on applications for residency programs for the last five years. I support them through the whole process which includes reviewing their CVs, writing their personal statements with them, and interview preparation. Interview preparation is my favorite part of the process. As we work together I watch them learn to ace the American way of interviewing and it's wonderful to hear when they get into a program of their choice in an intensely competitive environment. I help 5-10 students every year with interview prep.

Since reviewing research and reports in college for projects I was involved in to UN reports, an entire country's education curriculum for teachers, grants and much more, writing and proofreading have been an instrumental part of every single role I have ever had. It's something I greatly enjoy doing to get to the best level of writing possible.

I work with a student who is visually impaired on completing his PhD in Educational Leadership. For this, I have helped him correct errors in his writing, complete citations, and have written while listening to him speak out what he wishes to write. I also read documents out to him so he can determine what citations he would like to include in his writing. I also assisted him in getting across the stage for his PhD graduation. Additionally, I have worked in the past with children with mental and physical impairments in a rural part of India, developing catered educational documents and helping them develop their English speaking skills.

I have worked on UN reports that were essentially research projects as well as several research projects and manuscripts in undergrad and grad school. I also worked on formatting several thousand pages of a textbook for teacher education in Burma that required handling all the citations. Recently, over the last two years or so, I have worked with Masters level and PhD level students on proofreading their capstones, research papers, dissertations, and helping them with citations.

I have experience working with non-native speakers of many levels. My strongest experience is in helping them improve their writing especially when it comes to application essays. However, I also have experience in working with non-native speakers abroad. I worked at two hotels in Burma for a few months teaching Business English and helping students improve their speaking capacity for their industry.

I have a Bachelor's degree in both specialties (3.73 GPA) from the University of Illinois and a Master's degree in Public Health (3.7 GPA) from the University of Michigan with extensive writing and analysis experience throughout my 10-year career. I published a qualitative research study report with the United Nations, have written health needs assessments, letters to the editor, newsletters, annual reports, DOD reports, small business contracts, fact sheets, and blogs, many of which are accessible on my LinkedIn account. Along with my work in public health, after gaining expertise in literary analysis through my Bachelor's Degree in English Literature, I tutor high school students and adults to improve their literary analysis skills and complete their application essays.
