Hello! My name is Brett. My journey into education began when I realized that many students were being underserved by generic, "one-size-fits-all" learning centers. I hold a Bachelor’s Dergree in Electrical Engineering from University of Illinois and an MBA from Duke – Fuqua School of Business, which provided me with a rigorous analytical foundation. Over the past year, I have specialized in helping high school students navigate the complexities of ACT Math, ACT Science, Algebra, and the major branches of science in-person and one-on-one. I thrive on the interaction with my students and find genuine fulfillment in transforming a student's "I don't get this" into a "this makes perfect sense." By focusing on the core logic of STEM subjects, I help my students build a foundation that goes far beyond simple homework completion.
My tutoring approach is professional, systematic, and highly personalized. I believe that if you can’t measure progress, you can’t manage it. To that end, I implement a "Progress Heatmap" for every student, allowing us to identify specific knowledge gaps and track the "return on investment" of their hard work over time. During our sessions, I move away from rote memorization and instead focus on a first-principles approach, teaching students how to think critically and solve problems independently. Whether we are prepping for upcoming exams or getting a head start on next semester's curriculum, my goal is to provide a premium, high-impact learning experience that respects both the student's time and the parent's investment. I am currently accepting students for Spring and Summer prep—please feel free to reach out to discuss your student's specific goals!

Approved Subjects

ACT Math

ACT Math

I have helped many students improve their ACT Math scores. I help them with concepts, ACT "traps", and test time management. I have BS in electrical engineering and an MBA from Duke, plus over 20 years of corporate experience.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

I taught ACT Math to many students as well as helping students better understand Algebra I and Algebra II classwork. I emphasize the "why" over the "how", leaving the students with a deeper understanding of the topic. If you are looking for someone to do your homework - stay away from me! Otherwise, contact me and I'll make sure you truly understand the concepts - backed by a degree in electrical engineering and over 20 years of data analysis.
Data Analysis

Data Analysis

My approach to Data Analysis is based upon my background as an electrical engineer and my 20+ years of professional experience in advanced market analytics. I help students move beyond simply 'cleaning data' to discovering the actionable stories hidden within complex datasets. Whether we are working with Excel, SPSS, R, other programming languages. or specialized statistical software, I focus on teaching the 'First Principles' of data integrity, exploratory analysis, and statistical significance. I have a passion for helping students master the visualization of data, ensuring that their technical findings are communicated clearly and effectively to any audience.
Machine Learning/ AI

Machine Learning/ AI

With over two decades of experience in advanced analytics for market research, I bring a practical perspective to the study of Machine Learning. My expertise comes from a career of applying complex models—ranging from hierarchical Bayesian estimation and support vector machines to modern neural networks—to solve high-stakes problems for major corporations. In our sessions, I move beyond simply writing code to ensure a student understands the underlying mathematical logic and the 'why' behind model selection, whether we are tuning hyperparameters or performing cluster analysis. I am uniquely positioned to help students bridge the gap between theoretical statistics and real-world predictive power. My goal is to help you master the nuances of algorithms like random forests and K-nearest neighbors so that you can build models that are both accurate and interpretable. Together, we will bridge the gap between abstract data science concepts and real-world predictive power, ensuring you have the confidence to build and deploy effective solutions.
Marketing

Marketing

In Marketing, I specialize in bridging the gap between creative strategy and rigorous quantitative research. Drawing on my MBA from Duke’s Fuqua School of Business and my career in quantitative analysis for major corporations, I help students understand how consumer behavior is quantified and predicted. Our sessions focus on the mechanics of market segmentation, brand positioning, and the ROI of marketing spend, moving past high-level theory into practical, data-driven application. My goal is to equip students with the analytical tools needed to make informed marketing decisions.
MBA

MBA

I have both the academic background and the real-world experience to help others who want to explore the world of business. I attended a top U.S. daytime MBA program at Duke University Fuqua School of Business specializing in marketing and finance. After Duke, I spent over 20 years in various positions, some with P&L responsibility, all with international responsibilities. I founded and ran a small analytics firm for about a decade, serving client both in the US and abroad.
Microsoft Excel

Microsoft Excel

As an Electrical Engineer, I see physics not just as a set of formulas, but as a way to describe how the world works. I help students master classical mechanics, electromagnetism, and thermodynamics by breaking down word problems into logical, solvable components. My tutoring focuses on the 'setup' of the problem—teaching students how to visualize the scenario and select the right physical laws before they ever touch a calculator. This method reduces 'formula fatigue' and helps students develop a genuine intuition for the subject matter.
