Hi, I’m Marissa! I graduated from Harvard University with a degree in Applied Mathematics, where I focused on Computer Science and minored in Earth and Planetary Sciences. I believe that when students start to see learning as exploration, they build not only knowledge but confidence and imagination.

Hi, I’m Marissa! I graduated from Harvard University with a degree in Applied Mathematics, where I focused on Computer Science and minored in Earth and Planetary Sciences. I’ve always been fascinated by how the world works; science to me is about questioning the universe and finding meaning in its patterns. That same curiosity drives how I teach. I believe that when students start to see learning as exploration, they build not only knowledge but confidence and imagination.
I’ve taught elementary and middle school students in both group and one-on-one settings. From 2020 to 2021, I organized and taught a ten-lesson online summer program for the U.S. Earth Science Olympiad, where I led both introductory and advanced sections for more than twenty students. I also co-founded a college admissions tutoring company that grew to five tutors, helping younger students set academic goals early and see a future for themselves in higher education. Outside the classroom, I’ve tutored chess, holding Candidate Master and Women’s Candidate Master titles, and am a three-time Illinois State Girls Champion.
My approach combines structured problem-solving with creative discussion; I like to break complex ideas into simple, intuitive steps while encouraging students to ask “why.” I’m motivated by the idea of giving back through education, passing on what I’ve learned to the next generation, and constantly improving as a teacher myself. Parents and students often tell me that I bring both patience and enthusiasm to my lessons, helping students see what they’re capable of when they stay curious and engaged. My goal is to help every student I work with build a strong foundation for lifelong learning.
