I'm Steven! I'm a Chemistry student and part of the Honors program at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, and I've been teaching for most of my teenage and adult years. From martial arts to marching percussion to chemistry and math, I've always made an emphasis on how important it is to lay a good foundation of conceptual understanding, then building more advanced concepts on that base. Additionally, I believe it is crucial to understand where the student is coming from in times of need. The ability to see things from the student perspective is incredibly important for teaching a confusing concept, allowing for the instructor to approach teaching in the most efficient way possible.
I've tutored private one on one academic sessions for around six months covering high school math, and I also worked as a student tutor for my former school district. Here, I taught one on one as well, covering a wide scope of subjects but specializing in math and chemistry ranging from middle school level to Honors Precalculus and AP Chemistry. I also have been certified by Schoolhouse to be a volunteer tutor for SAT Math and SAT Reading. Additionally, I have taught marching percussion in large group and private lesson settings for two and a half years, specializing in snare drum instruction. Primarily, I have taught middle school and high school age groups throughout my teaching career.
As someone who has aspirations to go into healthcare, helping people is a passion of mine. I love seeing students have their lightbulb moment when they finally understand a concept they've been trying to grasp for a long time, and being able to help in the process is so meaningful to me. With that being said, I'm always just a message away, so feel free to ask any follow up questions or schedule a lesson!
