Howdy! I'm Tyler! I graduated from The Ohio State University with a bachelor's degree in Theoretical Mathematics. Ever since I was young, I have a had a great passion for math. I have loved solving equations and working through hard problems to come to a right answer. But the biggest part of my love for math came from my teachers. They always saw that I could do well and pushed me to do more so that I would grow in my abilities and love for math. They worked hard to ensure I was still challenged, even if I was in a higher math class than my peers. This I think is what really drew me to become a teacher. I wasn't sure about teaching when I graduated college, but as I have worked in that field for almost 5 years now, I truly think this has been the right choice for me.
I have worked as a teacher in middle school and high school, teaching mostly math and science. I am always one to pose a problem to the class and then have a discussion on how to work through it. I am a firm believer that the best way to learn math is by picking up the pencil and paper and actually working to solve problems. I love to ask my students how they got their answer and what they think the next step should be as I believe that truly engages their mind and helps them to grow. I have taught math classes throughout middle school and high school, from 6th grade to Algebra 1 and up to Algebra 2. All of my classes have been full classrooms with 15-20 students, but I always work to walk around while they are working and to engage each student individually to see how they are doing. In my time as a teacher, I have also had several times where a specific student needs help and they come see my during lunch or after school and I can give them one on one help to ensure they do not fall behind.
I always want to ensure students succeed and do their best, so I am always willing to listen to the student and parent to see what specific areas they are struggling in so that I ensure they are getting the support they need.
