I'm Emily! I graduated summa cum laude from Judson University with a degree in Educational Studies. I passed the Illinois Elementary Education Exam in June 2025. I have extensive experience writing lesson plans, modifying activities to individual needs, and implementing those plans in a classroom. In one of the practicums, I tutored a first-grade student struggling with reading. She greatly improved during our time together! I've also tutored students in multiple classrooms, from ESL support to gaining foundational writing skills.

Through these experiences, I have found how much I love helping students in one-on-one and small-group instruction. Helping students see their potential and gaining confidence is something I prioritize in tutoring sessions. My tutoring process starts with understanding the struggle points for the student(s). From there, I consider the students' interests, attitude about the subject, and confidence level to decide the best course of action. I always consult with parents or guardians to make sure we are in agreement about the plan and to monitor the progress of the student.

My tutoring approach is based on what the student needs. Often, I work with the student on a skill and gradually increase the difficulty and decrease the level of support given. This is done through gradual release which helps students see themselves using their skills independently, gaining confidence and motivation to keep going.
