My name is Virginia, and I have been working in education as a substitute, classroom teacher, and tutor (online and in person) for 15 years. I graduated from Missouri State University with a Bachelor’s in Elementary Education (grades 1-6) and tested out to get certified from birth to Kindergarten. As a substitute I have experience in Early Childhood-5th grade. As a classroom teacher, I taught and tutored 5th grade, specializing in Grammar, Spelling, and Writing. I also taught and tutored all subjects in 4th grade and 6th grade Social Studies. As an in-person homebound teacher I have worked in Early Childhood-7th grade. As a one-on-one online tutor, I have taught Kindergarten-7th grade.
As a teacher, I like to have a fun, relaxed atmosphere for learning. I prefer to work one-on-one as often as possible so I can make a detailed plan of success for a child, with at least 3 specific goals they can use to improve in whatever subject they want assistance. I use an interactive format to teach where I use examples, and students will work through problems with less and less guidance as needed, until they show mastery. I also like to review with games, student-led interactive practice, and flashcards. I can help with homework, study skills, test prep, and development of social emotional skills as well.
