Bio

I'm a current graduate student studying to be a Japanese language teacher, and pursuing a Master's degree and teaching licensure. I worked as an EFL assistant teacher in Japan for 3 years, and have passed the N1 (highest level) of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test. I have 3+ years of experience working in schools, and 1 year of experience as a tutor (both online and in-person). I have taught various ages, from elementary school to adult.

As a future Japanese language teacher, I try to teach in the way I would in my future classroom. I incorporate reading, listening, speaking, writing and conversation into my lessons. I aim to keep instruction in Japanese as much as possible, and promote the student's ability to stay in-language. I allow language to be a window for us to explore Japanese culture. And, I am motivated to find ways to make the learning meaningful for the individual student, incorporating their interests and making use of their strengths.

I worked in Japan as an assistant English teacher for 3 years, and studied abroad there for 1 year as a college student. I have also passed the N1 (highest level) of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test. I took advanced Japanese language classes in college, and have continued to take courses taught in Japanese in graduate school as a candidate for a Master's of Arts in Teaching degree in world languages. I also received a 5 on the AP Japanese test in high school.
