Hello! My name is Yoon, and I am a second-year student at the University of Rochester pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Political Science and a Minor in Epidemiology. I'm from Glenview, IL, and graduated from Glenbrook South High School, where I volunteered as a tutor for my school's tutoring center. I have the Illinois Seal of Biliteracy in English and Korean, and I have 5 years of experience in French.
As a student tutor, I assisted my peers in various subjects to help them achieve success in their respective classes, and I completed 70 hours of tutoring within two semesters during my senior year. I had a fun experience getting to know tutees of different grades, and interacting with them was the highlight of my day. Also, for three years, I was a teaching assistant at my local Korean school. I taught Korean and translated to children ages 5-9 in a classroom setting and cooperated with certified teachers to provide high-quality education. This was an important role because I spent my childhood as a student at the Korean school, so it felt fulfilling to teach a new generation of Korean-American children. I approached tutoring/teaching by frequently asking students questions about the material so that they would understand the concept enough to teach someone else. I also like to visualize the material and go through problems step-by-step to engage students.
I realized through tutoring and teaching that I love seeing growth in students and seeing them gain confidence as time goes by. I hope to be a source for students to unlock their potential and allow them to be tutors one day. Please reach out if you have any questions. Thank you!
