Northwestern University (History)
Wake Forest University (Master's)
I absolutely love helping students succeed, and have been involved in the field of education since the late 1990s. I am an expert on local history, and have experience working for an educational publishing company, where I worked in the field of research and fact-checking. I have contributed to many U. S. and World History texts, and have my own published works as well (including The Founders and Early History of Geneva). I have taught Advanced Placement European History and APUSH for many years, and have enjoyed extremely high pass rates throughout this time (thanks in large part to the students' hard work!). During my years at the Princeton Review, I helped students increase their scores on the ACT, SAT, and GRE exams, and had some of the best score improvements in North Carolina. I have taught at the Governor's School in Mississippi, in central North Carolina, in New York State, and here in Illinois. I was a history major and physics minor at Northwestern University, and earned a full scholarship to graduate school.
I enjoy tutoring history, reading, math, science, and English, and am well-versed in all academic fields. I have experience in tutoring subjects including: SAT math, reading, and writing; ACT math, reading, English, and science; American, European, and World History; Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Prealgebra, Trigonometry, elementary math, geometry; geography; GED; and more, and am qualified to tutor in each of these fields. My Scholastic Bowl team has qualified for nationals several times, and working together, we have achieved numerous Conference Championships. I have been married for fifteen years, and have two wonderful children, aged 8 and 5, both of whom LOVE to read. I collect antique books and newspapers, and have led several historic walking tours in the Fox Valley. I hope you will consider me for your tutoring needs!
I taught ACT math for the Princeton Review, and scored a 33 on my own ACT in high school. I received a perfect score (36) on my own ACT Reading section, and taught this subject for the Princeton Review as well. The National Merit Scholarship Corporation named me a Commended Student for my PSAT score (above the 96th percentile) and my GRE score was in the 98th percentile nationwide. My ACT scores were in the top 1-4% nationwide as well, and I was admitted to every undergraduate school for which I applied (including Cornell, Northwestern, etc.). The techniques I learned at TPR allow me to show students how to find correct answers and avoid traps set on all standardized tests. I help students understand how to solve each problem, and how to eliminate incorrect answer choices. I am one of a small number of tutors with actual experience tutoring the GRE and ALL areas of both the ACT and SAT.
I have (literally) written the book on early Geneva and Kane County history, and am currently close to completing a new work on the history of Campton Township. I've taught history (including at the AP level) for seventeen years, and am the current President of Preservation Partners of the Fox Valley. Our group received the Richard H. Driehaus Award for Historic Preservation three years ago (in Advocacy).
I am looking for students excited to improve their test scores, and to learn more in their fields of interest! Please contact me with any questions about tutoring, and I look forward to hearing from you! We were hoping to find a tutor/teacher who could help a good student who needed help in focused areas. Adam was able to quickly identify that and make quick progress were needed. He was also able to quickly make my daughter (and my wife) feel comfortable with our choice. We would give him the highest of recommendations.
Warmly recommend Adam.
My daughter has ADHD and some working memory impairments. He was both calm, methodical and very patient.
Explained geometry for my daughter in a way that made sense to her and they made age headway in getting caught up in math and raising her grades. Wish I would have done this months ago.
Very helpful in techniques and lessons. Teaches different methods to succeed in taking ACT. Teaches a way to understand all sections of ACT and I am feeling very confident for future test date.
My son met with Adam for SAT prep help. Adam came prepared with math work. My son came away from their first meeting very happy that he had "learned something"! He is looking forward to their next session, which is a win in itself.
I had my first session with Adam today over piece wise functions and range/domains. I was struggling with this topic and needed help. Adam is AWESOME! Wonderful personality!! Not only is he a GREAT teacher, very knowledgeable and made sure that I understood the material, but he also took the time to get to know me. I would definitely recommend him to others!!!
My daughter and I met with Adam and instantly felt that he was the correct fit for her tutoring needs. He makes a personal connection with his students and brings that into his teaching style. He creates both a relaxing and positive environment to the session which Is very beneficial. We would highly recommend Adam for your tutoring needs.
Mr Adam certainly widened my knowledge and taught me new ways to do even the easiest math problems. He also helped me remember how to do math problems which I had not done in a while. Overall, he knows a lot about a variety of topics and is very pleasant to work with.
Adam worked with me on high school geometry. He explained things thoroughly. He made things easy to understand. He took the time to re-explain something I din't get the first time. I hope to work with him more to raise my grade.
Adam reviewed my daughter's essays and provided excellent recommendations. He was very professional and made a positive impact to my daughter. We look forward to working with him again in the future.
Adam has had several sessions with my daughter and has made great progress. They are working toward the ACT test in September in hopes of raising her initial score. I feel like they get to work and utilize every minute of the 2 hour session. Adam has been flexible in selecting dates and times that work for both of them.
I've been going to Adam for ACT Tutoring for about 3 weeks and I actually enjoy going! Adam shows different ways to approach problems on all the subjects of the ACT that really makes a difference in ones score. I definitely recommend contacting Adam for tutoring lessons!
Adam G. is a fantastic tutor! Arrived on time and got straight to work. Ridiculous smart and really helped make problems that looked complicated on the GRE easy to understand and digested. Best GRE tutor on WyzAnt!
Adam helped prepare me for the GRE and is extremely knowledgable and knows exactly how to teach Information so it is easily understood . He is kind, patient, and when I left my first session I instantly felt more comfortable with the GRE stratigies. I highly recommend him.
My high school daughter worked with Adam on preparing for the ACT, focusing on the reading section. Her ACT reading score went up 3 points! I highly recommend Adam. He is responsive and very flexible on scheduling sessions. It was nice to find a tutor that my daughter enjoys working with too.
He was very patient and took time to explain concepts to me. He also showed me easier ways to solve problems. Great tutor.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I scored in the top five percent of test-takers nationwide on the math sections of the SAT, ACT, and GRE. I worked for the Princeton Review, and have a minor in physics from Northwestern University.
I received a perfect score (36) on the Reading section of my ACT, and have tutored this section of the test (and all others) for the Princeton Review.
I have taken courses on architecture, including many in the field of historic preservation as part of a certificate program at Northwestern University. I have studied historic architecture for years, and am the President of Preservation Partners of the Fox Valley, a group which specializes in historic preservation of homes that are significant both historically and architecturally. I have put together architectural walking and bus tours, and have taught how to recognize major styles of architecture in my APUSH and AP European History classes.
I am a top 5% scorer in all areas of the GRE. I have tutored for the GRE at the Princeton Review, with great success.
I took the Praxis I test to obtain my Illinois teaching license. I have tutored all subject areas of the Praxis I - reading, writing, and mathematics. I received a passing score the one and only time I took the exam. The Praxis II covers subject areas and I would be able to tutor the Social Studies/history subject test here. I obtained highly qualified status some years ago, in social studies.
I was named a Commended Student by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation for my performance on the PSAT. I received a Letter of Commendation and acknowledgement by my community for my achievement on this exam (top 3% nationwide).
