I'm Kathryn! I have a Bachelor's Degree in Creative Writing from Columbia College and a Master's from Eastern Illinois University. I graduated with a Master's of Arts in English Literary and Cultural Studies from Eastern Illinois with a 4.0 GPA. I have a Certificate in Grant Writing from DePaul University. I also have five years of professional editorial experience.
I have a passion for reading, writing, and improving literacy. I am also passionate about helping others access the joy and lifelong benefit of a relationship with books. I have extensive experience in literary analysis and MLA citation style. I also have in-depth experience with the Story Workshop Method of creative writing, which uses techniques of oral storytelling, games, prompts, and collaboration. This technique is a great tool for finding a student's voice and confidence in using it to effectively tell a story. I'd love to help you or your student find greater ease in reading and analysis, essay writing, English and Reading ACT prep, or just general proofreading.
My earliest tutoring "job" was in 2nd grade. I frequently stayed after school, helping friends and classmates who were struggling with reading and writing. Since then, I have been friends' and family members' go-to for proofreading and essay help. I also volunteered in the writing center during my undergraduate career. I passed my Graduate Thesis defense with distinction. My undergraduate degree is in creative writing, for which my capstone project was a 50,000-word Young Adult novel.
