Hello! My name is Nigil. I graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a master’s degree in mechanical engineering in 2015. Prior to that, I earned my bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan in 2014. I have been working in downtown Chicago for nearly the past decade as a mechanical engineer and have finally decided to teach more than friends and family. I absolutely love teaching math and have been doing it on the side for over 10 years remotely via calls and in-person from the suburbs. I had a wonderful math teacher in high school. He taught me in a way where I still retain those concepts close to 20 years later. This is what made me fall in love with teaching and inspired me to teach in my free time. He changed the way I learned, and I hope to change how you learn and grasp mathematics.
I employ various methods of teaching including, but not limited to, socratic questioning, visual learning, and kinesthetic learning. I find I have the most success with one-on-one tutoring. For example, I had one student that I tutored for four years starting in high school and into college for her math classes. We started from pre-calculus, went into high school calculus, and then in college covered Calculus I and Calculus II. She struggled to grasp math concepts in the beginning, which is why she came to me for help. We worked at her pace, meeting remotely and in-person, sometimes multiple times a week with each session lasting at least an hour. By the end of our time together, she passed with a 103% and 100% on her last two college exams and ended with an A in her Calculus II class! It was such a rewarding way to end her math classes in college. My students have always told me I know how to explain concepts very easily in a way they couldn’t understand from their teachers. I’m free most days/weekends and I am quick to respond. If you're ready to master math and see tangible changes in your grades from someone who is excited to teach, let's get started!
