Hi! I'm Gayle, I am an English teacher certified to teach 5-12. I graduated from Eureka College Suma Cum Laude with a GPA of 3.6. I have my BA in English Literature.

When I enrolled at Eureka College, I was originally going after teaching high school students, but then over the course of my undergrad, I got more experience with middle school students, and I realized how enjoyable it can be to work with them. I now have 2 years of experience teaching middle school and 2 years of experience teaching high school. I primarily specialize in English Language Arts, Theater, and other creative subjects.

What I realized throughout my study is that English as a class should be more interactive. I tend to focus on discussion and analysis when teaching English rather than just plainly lecturing to students about reading. I use short practice sessions and discussions to chunk difficult subjects so that they feel more manageable. I am extremely passionate about reading and writing, and I find that once people understand these subjects, they find their passion as well, and that truly brightens my day.

I am also extremely passionate and experienced in theater. I have 1 year of experience coaching speech and debate. To me, acting and reading go hand in hand. If you do not understand the character you are reading about, you cannot successfully play them. With my experience in teaching and coaching, I have become well versed in giving constructive feedback and building on students' strengths.

I pride myself on getting to know students as individuals so that I may uplift them into better learners.
