Hi! My name is Soumya, and I'm a rising sophomore at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where I'm majoring in biochemistry with minors in chemistry and statistics. I've always been drawn to science and math, not just as subjects to study, but as ways of thinking and problem solving that I love sharing with others.

My tutoring journey started through the National Honor Society, where I first began working one-on-one with students who needed extra support. From there, I expanded my involvement through the Connect program, gaining experience tutoring both elementary and high school students across math, reading, and science. Working across such a wide age range taught me how to adapt. Whether I'm breaking down basic addition with a young learner or walking a high schooler through a challenging science concept, I know how to meet students at their level and build from there.

Over the course of one year, I logged over 100 hours of tutoring, an achievement that earned me the Gold Presidential Service Award. That recognition meant a lot to me, but honestly, what motivated me most was watching students go from frustrated and discouraged to genuinely confident in their abilities. That shift is what keeps me coming back.

As a biochemistry student, I have a strong foundation in the sciences and mathematics, and I understand firsthand what it takes to tackle rigorous coursework. I know how overwhelming it can feel when a concept just isn't clicking, and I bring patience, creativity, and a genuine enthusiasm for teaching to every session.

My goal as a tutor is simple: to make sure every student I work with walks away feeling more capable and more confident than when we started. I'm truly excited about the opportunity to connect with students through Varsity Tutors and make a real difference in their learning journey.
