Approved Subjects

Ear Training

Ear Training

I graduated Summa Cum Laude from North Central College with a BA in Vocal Music Education. One of my best subjects in school was ear training. In fact, I missed so few ear training exercises on tests in college that my professor made a point of telling me how impressed he was with my skills. My ear training strength has served me well as a Music Director as being able to hear all the parts and adjust them is critical to being a good music director.
General Music

General Music

I graduated Summa Cum Laude from North Central College with a BA in Vocal Music Education. I taught General Music at a private school for several years after college. I have also Music Directed for many musicals for theatre groups in the Chicagoland area and most recently served as the Youth Vocal and Acting coach for Broadway in Chicago and Chicagoland Theatre Fund’s production of Children of Eden at the Cadillac Palace.
Guitar

Guitar

I started playing guitar at the age of 13. Over the years I have played in many different bands of various styles from classic rock to blues to jazz to metal. I also taught my younger brother and several cousins and family friends to play guitar. I graduated Summa Cum Laude from North Central College with a BA in Music Education. I taught General Music at a private school for several years after college where I also ran the after-school music program which included teaching guitar, bass, drums, piano, and voice.
Music Theory

Music Theory

I am a theory nerd! Music Theory was one of my best subjects in college. I got a near perfect score every semester in theory, and I still regularly grab dinner with my theory professors because I was one of his favorite students!
Piano

Piano

I started playing piano at the age of 16. I graduated Summa Cum Laude from North Central College with a BA in Music Education. I taught General Music at a private school for several years after college where I also ran the after-school music program which included teaching guitar, bass, drums, piano, and voice. I have also taught several family members and family friends to play piano.
Sight Singing

Sight Singing

I graduated Summa Cum Laude from North Central College with a BA in Vocal Music Education. In order to receive a degree in vocal music education, one must be able to sight sing at a very high level. I was one of the best sight singers in my class. I credit it this to all the different singing ensembles and musicals I have done over the years which require one to sight sing. I also taught many students to sight sing when working as a music teacher at a private school after college.
Theater

Theater

I have been in over 100 theatre productions in my life and have also worked professionally in the industry as a child and young adult where I did modeling, film, television, and Commercials. I have Assistant Directed and also Music Directed for many musicals for theatre groups in the Chicagoland area and most recently served as the Youth Vocal and Acting coach for Broadway in Chicago and Chicagoland Theatre Fund’s production of Children of Eden at the Cadillac Palace. I’ve taken numerous acting classes and workshops and studied privately with many different acting coaches. I currently coach several students who are professionally working actors helping them prepare for performances, auditions, and self-tape submissions.
Voice (Music)

Voice (Music)

I graduated Summa Cum Laude from North Central College with a BA in Vocal Music Education. I have studied various styles of vocals from classical to opera to Broadway to rock with many different teachers since elementary school and continue to study with coaches regularly. I taught music at a private school for several years after college. I have also Music Directed for many musicals for theatre groups in the Chicagoland area and most recently served as the Youth Vocal and Acting coach for Broadway in Chicago and Chicagoland Theatre Fund’s production of Children of Eden at the Cadillac Palace which featured big names including Michelle Williams from Destiny’s Child, Koryn Hawthorne season 8 finalist on The Voice, gospel singer David Phelps, YouTube singing sensation Sam Tsui, and Broadway star Randal Keith most known for play Jean Valjean in Les Miserables.

Honestly, look no further.

Jonathan is an amazing coach and very well educated! He is so passionate about his work and will be even more passionate about your voice along with what works and doesn’t work for you! He is so kind and easy to chat much like an old friend as well as makes sure to stay on track get down to business! From the first lesson he will establish proper breathing techniques as well as exercises for you to take with you and practice throughout the week! As a freshly graduated, musical theater student, it’s been hard for me to find a proper voice teacher for me. I am so thankful for this app & I am so excited to have found him! True needle in a haystack… look no further!

Makes me feel comfortable

I am not a singer and have no natural ability. JJ is very patient and encouraging. I respect his knowledge and love that he believes he can help me sing. I don't sing in front of people but he keeps me very at ease. I will update as we go. Really look forward to the lessons each week.

Knowledgeable and helpful

Jonathan is an excellent tutor. He was always helpful and forthcoming whenever needed. He taught our son the process of voiceover/dubbing acting, coached him on making acting choices, and helped him put the project together from start to finish. I would recommend him to any student in need of his expertise and exceptional talent.

Professional and friendly, knows what he's doing, loves teaching!

As someone who has never had any vocal training before, after working with Jonathan for about two and a half months, I have seen significant improvements in my voice already. I'm genuinely so glad I found him! Jonathan cares a lot about the work he does with students and loves teaching. He is very professional and understanding of scheduling, and if ever he has to start late, or there are technical difficulty delays, he makes sure we get a whole hour anyway. He'll make sure that you get the most value out of working with him for where you want to be. He points out improvements when he sees them, keeping me motivated to continue improving. All-around a great experience.

Love working with him

Isn't too serious, but at the same time knows how to stay moving forward in a lesson. If you genuinely wish to learn how to sing and you love music, you'll enjoy him. If you're someone that wants change now, now, now... he's not going to try to pretend there's shortcuts. You will gradually improve and get better to a very high level, but he expects you to be meticulous and committed. If you are genuinely that, he's at the front of the list of people to call.

Experienced, knowledgeable & kind vocal cosch

Jonathan has a ton of experience as a vocalist, vocal coach, & acting coach. He educates my daughter on the why as well as the how of vocal training, helping her understand why changes and strategies are important for her vocal health, which impacts her ability to sing without harming herself. He is kind and encouraging and also offers honest feedback. He seems to enjoy working with my daughter and is passionate about his work. He invited us to see other students of his perform in a play he directed and it was so fun to get to watch his work and experience his passion for other students. Jonathan is thoughtful and attentive to working with students and ensures their safety by requiring another adult to be present for lessons and via text communication. I appreciate his attention to this concern. My daughter loves working with Jonathan and we are so thankful we found him. I give him ALL the stars!!!!
