Hi, I'm Jacob. I tutor accounting, finance, Excel, and data analysis, and I help everyone from college students trying to get through a tough class to professionals who want to sharpen their skills for work. All of my sessions are online.

I have a Master's in Accounting and Data Analytics and a bachelor's in Accounting and Business Analytics, both from Indiana University's Kelley School of Business. I was a teaching assistant at Kelley, and I interned on the finance and accounting team at Citadel and in assurance at Grant Thornton, so I know how this material gets tested in class and how it's actually used on the job.

I can help with financial, managerial, cost, intermediate, and tax accounting, corporate finance, real estate finance, and business courses in general. On the Excel and data side, I cover everything from basic formulas and lookups to pivot tables and financial models. I also help with Microsoft Office, career development, and interview prep for anyone heading into finance or accounting.

Whatever we're working on, sessions are hands-on. You do the work while I help you spot where things go off track, so you walk away knowing how to handle it on your own. We'll focus on what matters most to you right now, whether that's an exam next week, a project, or a skill you need for your job.

I hold an MS in Accounting and Data Analytics and a BS in Accounting with a co-major in Business Analytics, so my background covers both the accounting and the analytics sides of a business curriculum. I have served as a teaching assistant at the university level, running help sessions for students with very different levels of technical background, and I have tutored college students and working adults one on one. I tutor general business coursework including intro business, business analytics, and the accounting and finance components that most business students find hardest. My approach is to start from the problem the student is actually stuck on and work backward to the concept, rather than re-teaching a chapter they have already read.

I am comfortable working through both the concepts and the spreadsheet mechanics behind them, since students usually need to see how a formula on the page turns into a model that actually runs.

When I tutor managerial, I focus on the places students usually lose the thread: contribution margin versus gross margin, choosing an allocation base, job and process costing, variance analysis, and working out which costs are actually relevant to a decision. I have the student work through problems while I watch, because the mistake is usually in how they set the problem up rather than in the arithmetic.

I have taught Excel to college students and to working adults at very different levels, from people who have never written a formula to people building three statement models, including as a teaching assistant at the university level. I cover lookups, pivot tables, conditional logic, absolute and relative referencing, data cleanup, charting, and how to structure a workbook so it does not break when the inputs change. I teach by having the student work in their own file rather than watching me demo, because the skill only sticks when their hands are on the keyboard.
