I earned my bachelor’s degree in Urban Education with a concentration in mathematics from the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) and have spent the past 10 years teaching middle school math. During that time, I’ve worked with 3rd grade students through high school students in private one-on-one settings, helping them build skills, improve confidence, and reach their academic goals. I also have several years of experience helping students prepare for the ACT and SAT. Whether a student is struggling with foundational math skills, working at grade level, or looking for an extra challenge in honors classes, I enjoy helping each student make meaningful progress.
One of the things I love most about tutoring is seeing the moment when a student has that “a-ha” moment and realizes, “I can do this!” Those moments are what make teaching so rewarding. I know that math can sometimes feel overwhelming, especially when students have struggled with it in the past, so I focus on creating a positive and encouraging environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. I meet students where they are, break concepts down step by step, and find different ways to explain ideas until they make sense. I love helping students see that challenges are part of the learning process and that with patience, effort, and the right support, they can grow.
My goal as an educator is not only to help students improve their grades or prepare for an upcoming test, but also to help them develop a growth mindset, build grit, and become confident, independent learners. I want students to leave each session with stronger math skills and the belief that they are capable of learning, improving, and overcoming challenges. Seeing students grow in both their understanding and confidence is one of the most rewarding parts of teaching.
