My music career started at the age five. I started small group piano lessons and theory classes. I continued lessons through elementary school and would perform at recitals. In the third grade I joined my school district's orchestra. My instrument of choice was the violin. I played in the orchestra until I graduated from elementary school and started private lessons in high school. My high school did not have an orchestra so I joined the concert band and started playing the flute. I played in the band all four years of high school. During high school, I did audition and become a member of the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra for a year. In college I played in the Millikin-Decatur Symphony Orchestra. I continued private lessons and had to attend and perform in master class and area recitals. One of my requirements for graduation was a Senior Recital.
I've attempted teaching family members growing up. It wasn't until I changed my major sophomore year of college to music that I gained my teaching experience. I took multiple method classes for woodwind, brass, string, and percussion instruments. I taught general music in a third grade classes for my Elementary Methods course. I led an exercise for a youth choir in my Vocal Methods course. For my Music Practicum I taught beginner flute and conducted fifth grade band. I also worked with orchestras in the fifth grade, junior high and high school and conducted at a concert for junior high and high school. Outside of college, I've had one student that I've taught keyboard lessons. It was a great experience and why I would like to continue teaching lessons.
This is my second try at online lessons so hopefully this will actually work. I am looking for the opportunity to share my gift and passion with others.
