Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

English

When it comes to English, there are several aspects to lead you to success: reading, writing, and grammar. Theses skills are crucial to excel in both college and work. Everyone has a different way of learning, we will find the best way of learning for you and build from there.

ESL/ESOL

I passed the transitional bilingual test for Illinois teachers and have an endorsement in bilingula/ESL education. I cater lessons to each student's needs. I know the process of learning a second language, which makes me a patient and compassionate teacher. I have worked with both children and adults. All of my students enjoy my lessons because they are fun and engaging.

Literature

Many students find themselves feeling frustrated when it comes time to read a novel. I will help students learn faster ways of reading and interpretation. We will also discuss and summarize readings in order to build analysis skills. Most importantly, we will have fun learning.

Proofreading

I highly enjoy writing and proofreading. I have an eye for detail. I can fix your grammar mistakes and I can help you learn how to write clearly.

Reading

I first started teaching reading when I taught middle school students who were learning English as a second language. I had the best mentor in the world who is a literacy coach and is an expert in the field. The first step I take in helping students become better readers is to connect with them as individuals and use materials that peak their interest. I have been working with my student Kelsey (see Tim's review) for two school years and she went from reluctant reader to "What are we reading next?". She not only has in interest in reading now, but also markedly improved her MAP scores.

Spanish

I majored in Spanish at Loyola University Chicago. I have been teaching since 2005 and continue to improve and update my craft each year. I have taught every level of Spanish to all ages, ranging from high school AP to adults who are beginners. I can help you to read, write, speak and understand with ease. I am a certified Spanish teacher and I love my job!

Excellent tutor!

Even in the first session established a good relationship with my high school son and used diverse engaging methods to address his study needs. She continues to be both effective and engaging, we could not be more pleased.
