I’m an Illinois-licensed educator with 15 years of classroom teaching experience. I hold a B.A. in Sociology with a minor in Communications, completed 24 graduate credits in education through New Jersey’s Alternate Route Program, and currently hold an Illinois Professional Educator License with endorsements in Elementary Education (1–6), Social Science (5–8), and Social Science (9–12).
For 12 years, I taught at a private school serving students with literacy-based learning disabilities, primarily in grades 6–8. I taught Social Studies, Math, and Language Arts in small classes and worked closely with students who benefited from multiple explanations, visual models, structured writing strategies, and additional processing time. Earlier in my career, I also taught in a self-contained seventh-grade classroom for students with behavioral needs. In addition to classroom teaching, I have experience tutoring students one-on-one, both independently and through a tutoring company.
My tutoring style begins with listening. I ask students to show me how they are thinking about a problem or assignment so I can identify what they understand, where they are getting stuck, and what kind of support will help most. I can help with middle-school math, reading comprehension, written responses, essay structure, homework, organization, and study skills. I often use a student’s current schoolwork as the basis for our sessions, allowing us to address immediate needs while building skills that transfer to future work. My goal is not simply to help a student finish tonight’s assignment, but to help them develop stronger habits, greater confidence, and more independence over time.
