Hello! I am Mariah. I am currently a second year college student pursuing a Mechanical Engineering and Biomedical engineering degree. I have been a tutor for roughly 4 years now. I graduated high school as a distinguished scholar and was even in the top 5% of my school.
The beginning years of my tutoring journey was just volunteer work but since I am a college student it's nice to be able to make money from it to fund school. I currently work as a in person tutor on my campus for a program we host for elementary students. I also am a student assistant for an electrical engineering and robotics class for a different program hosted at my school. This program is also directed towards elementary students but also middle and high school as well. With that being said, I have great experience with working with children especially younger children.
My strongest subjects are math and science, however, I can honestly help students in any topic. I play two instruments (the clarinet and oboe) so I also can help with music as well. I've learned from experience that making lesson plans usually tends to help both me and the student stay on track. My go to method is always to teach the student how to actually study. I'm aware that tutoring can be expensive and that most people won't always be able to consistently pay for tutors. With that being said, I believe teaching students how to study benefits them and their parents pockets as well. I also believe that getting to know the students is just as important. At my campus tutoring job, I always took this approach and it made it much easier for the student to gain my trust. After this, I would ask them to tell me about their favorite topics in school and afterwards name their least favorites and why it was their least favorite. Doing this helps me to get a general idea of what I'm working with. I take tutoring and the education of the youth very seriously.
