I’m Philly ! I have several years of professional and recreational tutoring experience. I specialize in research/writing, social sciences and history. I have an inclusive teaching style that accommodates those with neurodivergent abilities. After receiving my own neurodivergent diagnosis I studied the best ways for people like me to learn, and be productive. After applying these strategies I was able to start and finish assignments, stay focused, and maintain a 3.0 GPA. I want to empower students with the tools and confidence to advocate for themselves so they can succeed throughout their academic career. I am currently a tutor at my college’s academic center where I help my peers improve their research/writing, and comprehension skills. I succeed in this position by utilizing skills I gained while earning my B.S in Sociology, plus my current studies. Additionally, I assisted with freshmen students during undergrad, as a teacher's aid for Communications 101.
My experience tutoring younger students began post-graduation. As an Assistant Youth Program Coordinator, at the YWCA I was the instructor for the Girls Be You mentorship program. The goal was to raise the confidence in middle and high school girls who were having a hard time in school. I instructed both large group and one-on-one sessions, covering social studies, English/language-arts, and test-prep. By the end of the program there was an overall 80% increase in grades within the program. In 2018 I moved back to Chicago, volunteering as a coach for a local middle-school recreational team. Every season there were a handful of players ineligible to play due to not maintaining a 2.5gpa. I organized small study groups between coaches and players based on the area of study. My study group focused on language arts and comprehension, with my three players we had weekly sessions. In these 2 to 3 hour sessions I assisted with homework, and assigned small activities to do in their everyday life without added stress, making learning fun and relatable.
