Hello! My name is Marcus, I graduated from MIT with a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics with a 3.8 GPA and I am as passionate about teaching math as I am to learn it! One of the most important things that I learned while studying math is that building intuition is necessary to internalize math concepts, which can be difficult at times. While practice and studying were required to achieve this intuition, it was the fantastic teachers and mentors that I had throughout school that played the biggest (and most crucial) part in helping me develop the tools needed to develop and use intuition as a basis to understand math.
As such, my teaching style focuses on prioritizing a deep understanding of the concepts at hand and developing a solid, logical foundation of reasoning. I achieve this in the same way that my favorite teachers taught me; introduce the motivating ideas/questions behind the concepts, and from there use familiar examples that make the concepts more tangible and relatable. This has been the cornerstone of my approach since I started tutoring in high school, and it is my most successful method of teaching.
I tutored students at MIT for real analysis (advanced calculus) for 3 years in addition to tutoring high school students in topics ranging from algebra to multivariable calculus and SAT math for about 1.5 years during the pandemic. Additionally, I taught an introductory probability class during the summer of 2025 for the University of Chicago (UoC) Collegiate Scholars Program, a summer program for high-achieving high school students. While my tutoring experience lies mostly with high school and early undergraduate college mathematics, I can teach any math subject ranging from pre-algebra up to real analysis, discrete math, and symbolic logic.
