I had a 7-year career as an early childhood special educator, early childhood classroom teacher, and teacher leader/instructional coach with Denver Public Schools. In 2019, I left public education to support families who are engaging in alternative forms of homeschooling through coaching and tutoring. I have experience tutoring creative writing and reading instruction. I am most passionate about literacy tutoring through inquiry-based cycles. To expand my expertise in early 2022 I am participating in a Science of Reading certification course as well as a Teaching Writing Process accredited course from John Hopkins University.

I have years of experience working with students in special education and expertise in working with neurodiverse students. Specifically I have supported dyslexic, Autistic, and ADHD students learn the fundamentals of reading using Orton-Gillingham and Science of Reading methodology, sensory strategies, and student-led learning.

My goal for teaching writing is to support student’s writing interests and to teach them the writing skills most valuable to them in this moment of their life as well as skills that will lead to their future success. As much as possible the process of teaching writing should be individualized to the student. It should emphasize their strengths, be engaging and appropriate for their developmental level, and help them understand their resistances and their struggles

I have years of experience teaching and tutoring foundations in literacy. I have a Master's in Early Childhood Special Education. I was an early literacy leader in Denver Public Schools and am currently completing certifications in the Science of Reading and Teaching Writing Process.

I am a licensed special educator and taught for many years in the special education classroom. Since 2019, I have coached parents of neurodiverse children to implement homeschool programs that meet their child's needs. I am also a neurodiverse person and have a passion for supporting neurodiverse children.

Incredible Tutor for Special Needs Children

We are so thankful Kaitlin came into our lives to support our homeschooling journey. I have 3 children I started homeschooling when the school was not supporting their special needs. At first, was not sure about virtual tutoring but my children are learning more in short virtual sessions than they were all day in public school. My 10 year-old is Austic/ADHD and was refusing to do any learning with me or in public schools. He could read but wasn't comprehending anything that he was reading. Kaitlin adapted to his learning style and used his special interest in bugs to help him learn. She created a unit study about bugs to address his comprehension needs. I've never seen him so engaged in learning, He is excited about his session and can't wait for it to start. He went from having no interest in books to wanting to read on his own every day. Not only has his comprehension skills improved, but his language has improved and he talks a lot more in longer sentences. His twin who is also 10 years old works with Kaitlin for writing and novel studies. Thanks to Kaitlin she is above grade level. She also loves going to class and talks about the novels she reads all the time. Kaitlin is very enthusiastic and has really built my daughter's self-esteem. My youngest, 8, is dyslexic. Kaitlin uses a program designed for dyslexic readers to teach him to read. He went from a beginning 1st grade reading level to a 2nd grade reading level in just 6 months.
