Common Core

I have over 12 years of experience in education, including my time as a 3rd-grade teacher, instructional coach, and now a Professional Learning Specialist supporting educators across 40 districts. My core values in education include cooperative learning, social-emotional development, and academic rigor. I believe in creating engaging, hands-on learning experiences that immerse students in content while fostering critical thinking and problem-solving skills. One of my specialties is unpacking Common Core Standards to ensure students deeply understand the skills and concepts required for mastery. I break down each standard into student-friendly language and success criteria, helping students and parents clearly see what proficiency looks like. By identifying key learning targets, I provide explicit instruction, scaffolded support, and targeted practice to ensure students can confidently apply their knowledge. To promote critical thinking, I guide students through strategic questioning, analysis, and problem-solving techniques that help them engage with standards at a deeper level. Whether through structured discussions, inquiry-based learning, or differentiated small group instruction, I help students build the skills necessary to think critically, make connections, and extend their learning beyond the basics.

I have 9 years of teaching experience and am currently a full time teacher in a 3rd grade classroom. I am team lead of the third grade teachers, I am a member of the School Leadership Team and I am a member of the District Leadership Team. I am a Teach Plus Policy Fellow alumna and was awarded Teacher of the Year in 2020. I have also been nominated for the Golden Apple in Teaching Excellence award. In my classroom, I value cooperative learning, social emotional learning, and rigor. My students engage in hands on activities that allow them to fully immerse themselves in the content. I implement flexible seating in which students are given the choice to find a space and seating option that fits their specific learning needs. I also utilize direct small group instruction in which I differentiate and tailor to the needs of the individual child. I specialize in Common Core instruction and can offer support in explaining theory, concepts, procedures and rigor to students and parents alike.
