Dylan B.

Dylan Barnett is a Chicago based guitarist, composer, songwriter, and educator whose eclectic involvement in a variety of genres sets him apart from the average musician. With an extensive background in everything from jazz, rock, funk, and blues, Dylan's musical style refuses to be confined to a single genre, and instead embraces a mixture of all the music that inspires him.

Having recently graduated from the Depaul University School of Music with a BA in Jazz Studies, Dylan has studied with some of Chicago’s best working jazz musicians such as Dennis Carroll, Mike Allemana, and Bob Palmieri. Dylan also studied under the tutelage of Dana Hall for two years as a part of the university’s Jazz Workshop, in addition to being involved in numerous combos. Dylan can be seen around the city and surrounding suburbs performing jazz music in local restaurants, bars, and art galleries. Outside of the jazz idiom, Dylan regularly writes, rehearses, and preforms with his groups Jam City Collective and Safetrip. Led by close friend Devin Wessels, Jam City Collective performs original funk and soul music along with covers of classic songs. Their first EP ‘Welcome to Jam City’ was released in summer of 2018 with Dylan as a credited songwriter and producer. Safetrip is a band led by vocalist and lyricist Ilana Weisbach, and features music that is heavily inspired by soul, psychedelia, jazz, and R&B. Dylan was a featured songwriter, performer, and producer on their debut album ‘Eschatology’. Dylan is also a member of the 312 Chicago Wedding Band.

I have been playing guitar for 13 years, and have a degree in Jazz Studies. In addition to my expertise on guitar, I am qualified to teach beginner to intermediate piano, bass, drums, and ukulele.

I am incredibly enthusiastic about teaching, and am not restricted to teaching just one style of music! I feel comfortable helping you with any style or technique you are working on.
