Bio

With more than 40 years as a professional photographer and over 20 years teaching, I help adult learners build real confidence with photography and the tools that support it. A lot of my students come to me feeling behind on technology or overwhelmed by “all the buttons,” and that’s totally okay—my approach is calm, patient, and step-by-step, with an emphasis on understanding what you’re doing (not just following clicks).

I specialize in online training through Zoom, which makes it easy to work together no matter where you live. Sessions can cover digital and analog photography, iPhone photography, Lightroom Classic/Lightroom, Photoshop, Nik, Topaz, photo organization, Mac productivity, and practical troubleshooting for cameras, catalogs, color issues, and workflow headaches. I’m known for clear explanations, steady support, and strong client feedback—people consistently tell me they feel more capable after just one session.

My background includes assisting Irving Penn, years of commercial and fine-art work, and teaching as a college professor. I earned a BA in Photography from the Brooks Institute and an MFA in Art from the University of Miami. Whether you want a portfolio review, mentorship, help choosing gear, or simply want your system to stop fighting you, I’ll meet you where you are and help you move forward with clarity and confidence.

Adobe Lightroom

Adobe Lightroom

I have been using Adobe Lightroom since 2012. It is the main tool I use for digital asset management for my professional photography career. As an editing tool, I use Lightroom as a standalone application for my work as well as a point of departure for working in Photoshop. This is the best tool for introducing beginning students to digital photographic post-production.
Adobe Photoshop

Adobe Photoshop

I have taught Adobe Photoshop techniques at the university level since 2006. My area of expertise ranges from image adjustments for photographers to image manipulation and collage techniques for digital artists.
Art History

Art History

I have a Master of Fine Arts degree in Art and have taught both studio art and art history at the graduate and undergraduate levels. I am an avid reader and lover of history particularly art history. My expertise is the History of Photography and Contemporary Art but I am knowledgable and studied in a variety of areas of Art History.
Macintosh

Macintosh

I have been working professionally with Macintosh computers since 1995. My MFA in Art with a concentration in Photography and Digital Imaging was based exclusively on the Macintosh platform. I have taught the use of Macintosh computers and software at the university level since 2006.
Photography

Photography

I have worked as a professional commercial and fine art photographer since 1994. I am formally trained and practiced in traditional film photography as well as digital imaging. I hold a BA from the Brooks Institute of Photography and an MFA in Art from the University of Miami. In the early 1990s, I was an assistant to photographer Irving Penn.

I feel so fortunate to have chosen Wes as my tutor.

I'm a little rusty on Lightroom, Photoshop and DxO. Wes is so knowledgeable and patient. He is there to help me with anything I'd like to accomplish. He has a very wise, non-judgmental approach to teaching.

Met me where I'm at

I really appreciated his organized, thoughtful manner. He figured out what I needed and helped me start building. I really appreciate being able to tackle things in a way that makes sense to us both.

Very helpful, knowledgeable tutor

I had specific needs -- synching iPhone photos and folders with Lightroom Mobile and Lightroom Classic. Wes helped me accomplish that as well as cleaning up my catalog folder and Time Machine conflicts. Very pleased and will definitely work with Wes again.

Superb photography teacher for students of all levels.

Wes is an incredible teacher. It is one thing to have an excellent fund of knowledge; it is another to be able to share your knowledge with others. Wes has both attributes, making him the quintessential teacher.

Excellent teacher!

Wes has a way of explaining things- making it all easy to understand. He's a born teacher! He is incredibly knowledgeable with regard to all things related to photography. from the tech side, to the creative side of things, his knowledge base is extensive. He's completely non-Judgmental...meeting you exactly where you are. Additionally, I have been able to retain information I have learned and have progressed by leaps and bounds. Bottom line-- money well spent!
