In high school I learned how to be a proficient test taker, graduated first in my class, and scored 800 Verbal, 760 Math on the SATs.

In college I spent all 4 years volunteering with youth in elementary and middle school, serving as a homework helper and mentor. After college I spent 4 years living in Boston working with youth aged 16-21. During that time I worked with students from diverse backgrounds with all kinds of learning styles and specific skills. I loved working with each young adult, learning who they were and how to uniquely support them in reaching their potential. And throughout this I learned to be patient, open minded, and creative in adapting to each individual.

I now live in Chicago. I work as a designer, making things with my hands every day. I am passionate about visual arts and music, and feel strongly about the connection between thinking with your head and with your hands. In my spare time I am a woodworker, an avid reader, and a frequent concert-goer.

ACT English

I have 5 years of professional experience working with high school aged students, and I love tutoring the ACT English section. To prep for the English section of the ACT, we will practice the grammar concepts that show up on the ACT English test, and look at how the ACT looks at concept development in passages. I can help with command of evidence, words in context, subject area analysis, standard english conventions, and expression of ideas for the ACT English test.
ACT Math

ACT Math

I have 4 years of professional experience working with high school aged kids, and I am very familiar with the ACT Math section. I can help you identify the ACT Math questions on the test that you need to practice most, develop specific strategies to practice those questions, and patiently work with you to boost your ACT Math scores (and your confidence!) with this tricky test.
College Counseling

College Counseling

I love writing and have helped many students write essays for high school, college, and graduate school. I can help you work on your college essays, common application, or supplemental application materials. I can also provide accountability and structure for checking things off your college application to-do list.
Geometry

Geometry

I spent 4 years working professionally with high school students, and I really love it! While I got straight A's in my math and geometry classes, it wasn't without effort. I understand how tricky math (and especially geometry!) can be, and love to help students find the unique way in which they can learn and understand difficult concepts. Plus, as a designer, geometry is one of the most relevant subjects to me!

Wonderful SAT Tutor

Our son doesn’t like meeting with tutors and wasn’t happy about starting up with an SAT tutor, but Jamie connected with him on the first session and he happily attended all his remaining sessions with her. She strategically worked with him on his weak areas in all areas of the test and he was consequently able to improve his score significantly over the PSAT. We are so pleased our son had the opportunity to work with her and recommend her without reservation.

Helpful and Knowledgeable Tutor

I asked for her help with my SAT scores. I had been particularly struggling with the reading and writing portion of the test and she helped me further narrow it down to a specific section of writing questions, of which she gave me multiple resources to learn, and practice the concepts.

Dedicated and well prepared

Jamie is well prepared for her lessons and I was especially impressed with her dedication. She was the only teacher who evaluated his level before my son’s first lesson. She also had a level of energy that my son appreciated and felt as if Jamie was genuinely interested in teaching.
