College Admissions Counseling:
I completed my graduate studies at the University of Chicago and after years in the classroom in the US and abroad, I transitioned to higher ed. I now work at a private R1 institution. Previously, I was a program manager at a local non-profit consulting high schoolers on college applications and and at a community-led organization providing social services. Work experience in admissions and residence life at two private universities informs my knowledge of what institutions are looking for. Since 2020, I have consulted hundreds of domestic and international students to top public and private institutions (including but not limited to: UChicago, Harvard, UPenn, Dartmouth, Cornell, Brown, Duke, Johns Hopkins, Tufts, UCLA, UC Berkeley, Boston University, UVA, UMich, GWU, UT-Austin, and Rice). I specialize in guiding applicants who identify as first-generation, underrepresented minority, immigrant/child of immigrants, transfer, etc. I work with students and families of all backgrounds on all parts of the holistic application process.

Writing:
I leverage my training in international relations, political science, history, linguistics, religion, and anthropology to guide my students' critical thinking skills and refine their research skills. I work with students on applications, coursework, scholarships/fellowships, and jobs (resumes and cover letters). I also provide academic counseling for undergraduate and graduate programs. I have worked with applicants to prestigious federal language grants as well (NSLI-Y, CLS, FLAS, Gilman, Fulbright, and Boren).

Languages:
I'm currently focusing my personalized curricula on the following languages and levels:
- Spanish (all levels)
- Arabic (Beginner MSA, Beginner Egyptian - Cairene)
- Turkish (Beginner, Low-Intermediate)
- ESL (Intermediate, Advanced)

Arabic

Arabic

I am an Advanced Arabic speaker who uses the Al-Kitab series for Beginner and Intermediate Arabic, as well as resources beyond the textbook. I have formally studied Arabic in Egypt and Jordan and am familiar with both dialects. I activate all language skills and specialize in pronunciation in both Modern Standard Arabic and Egyptian Arabic. I cater to Beginner learners who are nervous about learning the alphabet and speaking, as well as Intermediate Learners who want to make tangible progress with their skills.
College Counseling

College Counseling

I have extensive experience working in college admissions and residence life at two private institutions. I am equipped to provide advising on the entire college application process, from researching programs and preparing materials to submitting applications. I currently tutor for SAT's Reading and Writing sections and work with high school students directly mentoring them, helping them locate institutions of interest, write essays, apply for scholarships, and more.
IELTS

IELTS

I have taught all four sections of the IELTS: writing, reading, speaking, and listening to international students in American Universities, as well as students in Turkey, Egypt, and Jordan. I am flexible - I can teach all sections to the same student or allow them to pick what they find most challenging and need support with. I link students with resources that support their IELTS journey, specifically journals that hone their reading comprehension while they indirectly develop their sentence structure and argument articulation.
Spanish

Spanish

I have a command of numerous spoken Spanish, including Mexican and Caribbean (Puerto Rican and Dominican). I am able to teach grammar, listening and reading comprehension, and speaking skills to all ages. I am capable of teaching heritage learners.
Turkish

Turkish

With exposure to Turkish since childhood, I learned Turkish in the classroom in the US and in Turkey, where I lived and worked for many years. I am fully equipped to teach vocabulary, tenses, grammar and rules of writing, and to a lesser extent reading comprehension. I emphasize pronunciation and use the canon books of Turkish instructions (Kurtulus series, Yeni Hitit textbooks, and Bogazici University-informed curriculum).

Invaluable mentor!

Jessica was an absolutely wonderful mentor during my college process! I primarily met with her to go over my essay responses and I always left each meeting feeling calmer about the process and more confident with my writing. Jessica made many insightful suggestions that made my writing engaging and creative, while still making sure it was my voice that remained on the page. I cannot express how much her suggestions and encouragements aided my college application process. Furthermore, Jessica was extremely responsive and flexible in terms of scheduling meetings. I could always count on her to respond within minutes and have availability for that week. In the end, I was accepted into Brown (my dream school), Cornell with a research scholarship, and a full-ride to the University of Richmond! I strongly recommend Jessica.

Perfect fit - knowledgeable and proactive

Jessica was the perfect fit for my daughter - so knowledgeable and helpful in working through each step of the process. She was incredibly proactive - reserving time for my daughter each week at her preferred times to be sure that she was accountable for the next step. I think my daughter also learned a lot about writing and editing from her - things she wasn't taught in school! Thank you so much, Jessica! I'm grateful for your help and so glad we chose you!

Understanding and patient

My daughter felt comfortable with Jessica and will take the suggestions she has given her until their next meeting. We had a little bit of complication signing on and she was understanding and patient with us. I will see how their second session goes and hopefully my daughter improves her writing until then.
