Hello! My name is Morph, and I take pride in being a caregiver, tutor, teacher and mentor with a passion for spontaneous problem solving. I structure learning as a collaboration that should foster laughter and creativity. Compassion is what drives me, and a love of kindness compels me to prioritize the child above all else. Growing up with a diagnosis of ADHD myself, I’ve learned to apply cognitive behavioral therapy principles to help children conquer time management challenges, so they can successfully complete homework and retain information more successfully.

For 8 years after college, I worked at the Chicago Board Of Trade, on the historic open outcry trading floor. Work ending at 2 o'clock every day, and having two young siblings, I found myself being asked to tutor and sit for many of our family friends. I prided myself on contending with their young imaginations and thrived in the role.

I am a northside Chicago native, educated in the Chicago Public School system (Lincoln Elementary and Walter Payton College Prep), where I got a 30 on my ACT and 3.6 GPA. These accomplishments won me a scholarship to Kalamazoo College, where I obtained a Bachelor's Degree in English Composition with a minor in Japanese.
My focus is to make learning fun. I have experience tutoring students with special needs in writing, photography, and film studies. I can also tutor children learning to speak English as a second language.

I am also an avid video gamer and eclectic artist, novelist and experimental music producer.

Having majored in English in college, it's my area of expertise. As someone who also has studied other foreign languages, I'm able to see the structure of English from an outside perspective.

I'm excited about meeting you or your student! My after school schedule is very flexible. I'll do my best to help your student learn in a way that's engaging to them, specifically.

Inspirational English Tutor

Morph tutored my daughter English reading and writing a couple of years ago. His dedication, clear communication, and patience not only helped my daughter to improve her English, but also inspired her love for reading. My daughter was in a junior high school in China and she wanted to go to a prominent boarding high school in the U.S. Mike came on board to tutor her in English reading and writing, to enhance her success in high school. After the initial assessment, Mike came up with an 8-week intensive plan with detailed progress, books to read, and homework assignments. English is not my daughter’s native language, and Mike was very patient with her. He has a calm voice and caring heart and connected with my daughter immediately. He monitored her progress and listened to our feedback to adjust the plan. My daughter was initially reluctant to spend so much time studying during her vacation in the beautiful Chicago Summer, but after the first session with Mike, she stopped complaining, and I was very happy to see that she was spending extra time and effort to get homework done and to prepare for the next session. Mike was always on time and a good communicator. On one or two occasions when he had an unexpected conflict, he informed us promptly and worked with us to reschedule. He always texted us the summary of the previous session and things to cover for the upcoming session. My daughter was ultimately admitted to a prominent boarding high school. She has succeeded there and will attend a great college to study architecture this coming Fall. She continues using the methods Mike taught her in reading and writing that summer. We felt lucky to have Mike as a tutor and grateful for his hard work in helping my daughter.

College App Essay Writing Coach Genius!

I hired Morph to help my daughter get started writing her college application essays. We brought sample prompts, and Morph helped her organize her thoughts, brainstormed different angles she could take, and gave us an overall view of how to approach this daunting task. Very creative and encouraging tutor! We look forward to our next session with Morph!

Very knowledgeable, experienced, and goes the extra mile

Morph and I worked on a literature review. They helped me make the changes I needed and were very articulate about making the right changes in the review, which I greatly appreciated. I am earning a doctorate in education, so I need the expertise of a writing coach.

He has been responsive, detail oriented and willing to assist with any adjustments/revisions I require.

Morph has been helpful as an editor. He has been responsive, detail oriented and willing to assist with any adjustments/revisions I require. He offers thoughtful suggestions on how to improve my writing, beyond simple formatting suggestions. As I near the end of my program, I am thankful that he was there to assist me.
