Bio

I have taught high school math for 35 years. I love my job and have seen a great deal of success. In the 14 years that I taught calculus I achieved over a 90% pass rate on the AP test with half of my students getting 5's. I was nominated as Rookie Teacher of the year in my first year of teaching and for a Golden Apple about 14 years later. I have taught SAT courses in addition to all levels of mathematics.

I have taught high school math for 35 years. I love my job and have seen a great deal of success. I recently retired from my position of 31 years but I would like to continue to teach. I would love to continue to help students reach their potential and understand concepts that, until now, had been confusing. It has been my experience that simply finding another way of presenting the material will make the concepts accessible to most students.

After 31 years I have accumulated multiple ways of presenting material and can anticipate most misconceptions and where most students have difficulties. My students attain a deeper understanding and regularly say "this is the first time I ever really understood math".

I am a 35 year veteran high school teacher who has taught all levels of algebra from the lower level freshmen students who struggled to understand the material to the higher end students for whom math cane easy. My experience has allowed me to create an arsenal of ways to present material to students.

I taught algebra 2, college algebra or pre-calculus virtually every year that I taught (35 years). These three classes teach similar concepts but at a different difficulty and or speed. I am very familiar with the curriculum and very capable of teaching it.

I taught calculus for at least 13 years with over 50% of my students scoring a 5 on the AP test and about 95% of them passing. I enjoy teaching the subject and feel I can make it understandable for those I teach.

I have over thirty years of teaching experience having taught geometry using a compass and straight edge, using computer software, using explorative activities and standard lecture. I believe I can find a way to help you or your child understand geometry.

Wonderful Algebra tutor

Melanie has been working with my daughter for a few months now and we have seen some great improvement in her grades and her confidence with Algebra overall. Melanie is patient, has a great rapport with kids and parents and is wonderfully responsive. Overall a great experience, highly recommend Melanie!

My daughter is currently a 9th grader. My daughter was very sad when it comes to math. We've used other tutors but my daughter advised me they teach with a program not working on what she's working on in her classroom and it difficult to just follow a program until she started working with Melanie! She's so happy and stated she's now enjoying matb and she tutors exactly what her class is working on currently and she continues to give her problems to work. Melanie has tutored my daughter in both Pre-calculus and Calculus, and she has helped my daughter tremendously! Melanie is very reliable, a good communicator and does an excellent job of distilling the concepts and teaching them in a way that helps my daughter understand quickly and painlessly. Melanie has also helped my daughter develop a successful plan of attack for her Calculus class. Now my daughter completes her homework packet immediately after it is assigned. She is then able to follow up with Melanie for clarification or questions, and she has been able to demonstrate mastery in all homework and quizzes. This is a significant improvement from when she first started seeing Melanie for help with her Pre-calculus - in the beginning, my daughter couldn’t do the bulk of her homework without Melanie.
