Working as a teacher for over fifteen years, I believe in tailoring each learning experience to the student and his/her needs as a learner. Although I work with individuals and small groups in the classroom, one of my favorite parts of being an educator is tutoring students at lunch or after school. This gives me the opportunity to work with learners on a personal level. I routinely start with a diagnostic or an activator activity to gauge where a student is, then I utilize the results to individualize a lesson. After modeling and practicing, learners practice skills or concepts independently so that we may assess misconceptions or missteps together. I then end every session with a quick assessment to measure a learner's understanding and plan for the next session. This individualistic approach addresses specific needs and maintains a pace appropriate for each student.
I have been speaking Spanish since I was in elementary school and have had six years for formal classes. I regularly speak Spanish with parents, students and with my own children.
