I have a BA in Linguistics with a minor in Portuguese. I have a great fascination with language in general, and always seek to learn anything I can about all different types of languages. I have a love for teaching, and an even greater for learning. I strongly believe that there is an opportunity for learning, from anything or anyone, at any given moment.

I lived in Brazil for two years and became enamored with the country. I have a comfortable knowledge and proficiency in the Portuguese language. While I was in the country, I also took time to learn Spanish. The focus of my degree in Linguistics was teaching English as a second language. I got a minor in Portuguese and have had opportunities to teach and share my knowledege of Portuguese and English on multiple occasions. I like tutoring because it is typically a more intimate setting and all the needs of the student are met with more facility.
I received a TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) certificate along with my degree. This certificate certifies that I have a thorough knowledge of the English language and that I am in a position to teach it to anyone at any level of proficiency. In the Linguistics program, grammar was covered in great detail, and I feel comfortable teaching and explaining the intricacies of the seemingly confounding English language.
I lived in Brazil and spoke only Portuguese for two years straight. During that time, I became familiar and comfortable with the language in general and all the grammatical systems it employs. I was sure to be thorough and continue studying the language until my time there ended. When I came back to the U.S., I continued my study of the language, and learned Spanish as well. I have held multiple jobs speaking both languages, and have excelled in those positions.
