Hello!

My name is Erica and I have been tutoring since 2003. In that time I have worked with students in one-on-one settings and small groups of two or three at a time. My students have spanned all education levels and ages, whether I was working with a same-aged peer in grade school to adults my senior.

While I have tutored a variety of different topics over the years, my education is in chemistry and mathematics so any academic help I have provided has focused in those areas in particular. As a side note, this also includes all grade school physics. In my professional life I develop computer programs for applications to science, so I am comfortable with helping others learn computer fundamentals or work on basic code (python, Matlab/Octave, and bash are my preferred languages).

My goal as a tutor is not to be another teacher, dictating what a student should or should not do. My job is to be a guide, to show the student that it is likely that they can in fact get the right answer for the right reason. I provide assistance, work through examples, fill in the gaps, and rephrase the students own words to deepen their understanding. If I help lay out the first few stepping stones, ideally the student put down the next one.
I want the student to have an 'aha' moment on their own steam. :)

My schedule is incredibly flexible, so do not hesitate to ask for "weird" tutoring hours. I am also happy to work with groups of up to three students, so bring your friends!

Great tutor

Erica was extremely dedicated and clearly knowledgeable. She was always on time if not early and would work with our child even if it ran past the scheduled time. She was patient and kind and we would definitely use her again.

Applied calculus

Very patient and knowledgeable. Able to walk me through the problems to give me a better understanding of how to work the problem. Will continue to work with Erica to get a better understanding so that I can get a better grade in my classes.

Erica took the time to comfort my daughter!!

I wanted to say “Thank You Very Much Erica!” For taking the extra time to talk to my daughter after the class. My daughter came back from a trip to Reno, NV after a long weekend for her school Jazz festival. She was exhausted and took her AP exam that Monday morning. Then she had a session with Erica that evening. My daughter was so tired and she told me that Erica spend little bit of time going over Calculus and realized that my daughter was exhausted. The rest of the class Erica was just chatting with her encouraging and providing positive vibes. My daughter said it was so comforting and nice of Erica to talk about her Jazz festival and other stuff. Erica didn’t even charge us for the chat 😊

Knowledgeable and patient tutor.

Erica helped me maneuver through my new Mac Book and tried to give me several options for problem solving. She was a delight to work with. She would be especially helpful in tutoring higher level math.

Knows how to tutor!!!

I’ve had several Calculus tutors for high school senior daughter in this platform. Pretty much all of them helped her with her homework and didn’t have a plan on helping her with the concepts. After the first session with Erica, my daughter said that she likes how Erica tutors her to understand the concepts. My daughter said she really liked Erica’s approach and asked me to schedule more sessions. Now I am going to have my youngest daughter who is a high freshmen get some tutoring help with Erica!! Erica is very responsive, organized, and prompt!!

Great with easy methods to remember difficult topics

Jumped back and forth between sixth grade math and college functional algebra. Very patient with someone that was in sixth grade math 35 years ago and remembers very little of it. Nice to be able to relearn fractions and go straight to plotting functions in a 10 minute span (at my request).

Knowledgeable and thorough tutor.

Erica is an excellent tutor! Very satisfied with her lessons and pleased with all of the tips and personalized information given to help my specific needs. She is very encouraging and helped my son through the entire process step by step. Happy that we found a wonderful tutor. Thank you, Erica!

On your side and patient

I had a test coming up, and Erica was very much aware of the time constraint and very realistic as to what we could get through. She was incredibly understanding and I didn't hesitate to ask any questions. Despite having never seen my syllabus before, she picked up very quickly what was being asked of me and prepped me perfectly in time for my exam. Thank you, Erica!

Feeling Confident

I feel confident now that I have tutored with Erica a second time. Today I was able to "teach" her the steps of the equations which helped me to solidify my knowledge of how to solve them.
