I am an experienced educator and tutor with over 10 years of experience. I’ve worked with students from kindergarten through high school, as well as adult learners. I specialize in Spanish, reading, and ESL.

I hold degrees in Elementary Education and Spanish (summa cum laude). I am a licensed elementary and bilingual Spanish educator, and I’m currently earning my Master’s in Speech-Language Pathology with a bilingual certificate.

Literacy is an area of expertise and passion. As an elementary educator, I taught foundational reading skills (e.g., phonics and comprehension) and developed literacy curriculum and interventions to support students with varying needs.

I spent several years teaching in Spanish bilingual/dual-language classrooms, with approximately 80% of my daily instruction delivered in Spanish. I also lived and taught in Spain as a Fulbright scholar and studied at the Universidad de Granada.

Beyond my own classroom, I have evaluated instruction in more than 70 multilingual classrooms, provided individualized feedback to educators, and led professional training to improve instructional practices.

Regardless of the subject, my goal is to help students build lasting knowledge and confidence while developing a love of learning. I personalize each session to make learning meaningful, engaging, and fun.

I hold a B.A. in Elementary Education and am a licensed elementary educator with several years of classroom teaching experience and over 10 years of tutoring experience. While I have experience across elementary grades, the majority of my classroom experience was spent teaching first grade, giving me extensive experience teaching foundational academic and literacy skills. I have also developed literacy curriculum and interventions, including instruction in phonics and reading comprehension, to support students with varying needs. My experience with foundational skills helps me identify and address learning gaps while breaking down more advanced concepts for older elementary students.

I have taught English abroad at an elementary school. I’ve also worked with both children and adults learning English. My study of education and language prepares me to work with students of all ages to improve language acquisition. I am also currently earning my Master’s in Speech-Language Pathology with a bilingual certificate, further expanding my knowledge of language and communication.

Fabulous Spanish Tutor

My daughter was taking an online 9th grade Spanish class this year and needed additional help to work through the material and hear proper pronunciation of words. Kyra was professional, smart and encouraging. She provided detailed explanations of the grammar rules and made conversing fun! My daughter earned an A in her class and learned so much. We will continue working with Kyra Sophomore year. I highly recommend Kyra!

Wonderful Spanish Tutor that Makes Lessons Fun

We cannot recommend Kyra highly enough — she plans out her lessons in advance and clearly communicates session objectives. She works hard to practice specific issues my daughter is focusing on in class. Most importantly, she designs each lesson in a way that is enjoyable for my daughter. Working with her has definitely improved my daughter’s Spanish. She is also very professional, proactive, and reliable with scheduling. We really appreciate all she does!

Amazing Spanish Tutor!

My rising 1st grader just had her first lesson with Kyra and she loved it. Kyra was able to keep her engaged for the full hour and my daughter wanted more time after the lessons was over.

Knowledgeable and dedicated instructor

She goes above and beyond to help me improve my English skills. Very patient, attentive, sharp and funny to study with. Totally recommend her mainly if you are a learning English as an adult or have a Portuguese or Spanish as a native language.
