I have nearly three years of tutoring experience, including two where I tutored in ACT Writing, Social Sciences, and Reading tests in addition to SAT II's for US and World History, and AP US and Euro history tests. These were one on one engagements with specific students for multiple hours every week, on the weekdays after school and also on the weekends. I taught middle and secondary school students at all levels, including several who had English as a second language. I also taught a College Application Writing Course to a group of 30 rising juniors and seniors, and developed their expository writing skills while also tailoring their resumes, essays, references, and other writing samples to create a competitive application.
I managed their workload and kept them on deadline for the various schools they were applying too, and even counseled their parents onto which schools had the likeliest opportunity for success. These courses were largely for advanced students applying to elite colleges, although there were a few students from disadvantaged backgrounds and some students with minor learning disabilities. I also tutored as an undergraduate at the University of Chicago, where I majored in History, with AP History and AP English courses at the Chicago Public Schools through the Neighborhood Schools Program.
I scored 5's on the AP US History, AP Euro History, AP American Government and AP Comparative Government exams and am familiar with how to teach DBQs, Essays, and the more conventional multiple choice sections of the test. I graduated with a 3.7 GPA in my major at the University of Chicago, specializing in a synergy of British and American history through my BA which was nominated for the Nicholson Prize in British History.
