About Monica

As a Deaf person coming from a hearing family, I was raised and surrounded by hearing environment and naturally, that made me want to teach everybody sign language. I started teaching since the age of 7 starting with my dad, my relatives, and my neighbors. And I've never stopped teaching ever since.

There is always somebody new coming along on my path and I've always been so open and encouraging others to learn ASL. I have taught and inspired many various of people of all ages to learn sign language from all walks of life while growing up which including my young nieces/nephews, neighbor, strangers, friends, relationships, and parents.

My education background while growing up consists of various experience including; a mainstream program using an interpreter, and then enrolled in a hearing school with a small Deaf program, and transferred to a Deaf school and graduated in 2007.

After high school, I went to Gallaudet University, a Deaf university in Washington, D.C. and graduated with Honor, a total of 3.48 GPA. I graduated with a Bachelors degree in Psychology and a minor in Family Studies in August of 2011 after completing my ten-week internship at Thepparat School for the Deaf in Thailand in a rural town called Bang Saphan.

After graduation, I had a variety of experience in traveling throughout SE Asia, India, part of Central America backpacking and doing some volunteering work.

I was always involved with ASL program during high school year which includes working or being around hearing people that were learning sign language during high school year, joining them on sign language activities, joining my sister to assist her in teaching ASL at the University that she teaches going there few times a year, working with variety of hearing people that are a newly signers, also had two roommates that were in interpreting programs becoming an interpreters, also had friend that often wants to translate song so we would often sit and figure out the meaning of the song and how to translate it into ASL which I find I really enjoy, trying to put my creative to work making a beautiful ASL song but it requires time too to invest in it...so my experience is a combination of a little of everything.

I am naturally sweet, patience, and understanding when it comes learning ASL to so don't hesitate to contact me for any questions at all!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. Knowledgeable patient and attentive tutor

I like how Monica asks me what I want to learn and from there she takes the class. She's patient and if u ask her to repeat herself she does it and explains me well if she notices um not understanding or if I ask her.
