My first year in education I taught as a 5th-7th grade paraprofessional in the special education department. Years 2 and 3 I worked with Teach for America. During these years I taught 6th grade history and writing on Chicago's South Side. Lately I have been working at a Noble Charter school teaching 11th and 12th grade English. I specialize in direct grammar instruction, writing fluency and form, reading comprehension and both text-dependent and inferential question response.
During my high school teaching years, I have been an advisor to 18 young men. I met with them twice a day for both social-emotional development and academic achievement. I just had the honor of watching these guys graduate and move on to college. Along with daily advising, I hold office hours where students sign up for tutoring throughout the week. I am currently moving from the classroom to private practice education while I further my education at the University of Chicago. I love helping people achieve their goals, and tutoring has always been one great way to do this!
