Ballroom Dancing

My wife and I met teaching ballroom dance at Fred Astaire in downtown Chicago while I was in grad school and are also familiar with the Arthur Murray curriculum. I am fluent in Foxtrot, Waltz, American Tango, Salsa, Merengue, Cha Cha, Rumba, and East Coast Swing (and some Lindy Hop).
Drawing,

Drawing

I have taught many collegiate level art classes at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Columbia College, DePaul University, The Illinois Institute of Art, and Tribeca Flashpoint College. I paint and draw regularly and enjoy fashion, scientific, and natural history illustration.
Film,

Film

I have taken a variety of film classes, written about many films in graduate school, and teach acting and animation history which inescapably intersects the world of film theory and practice. Additionally, as a 3D compositor, I deal with issues of color-correction, lighting, staging, and editing as I attempt to blur the distinction between the "real" of what is shot, and the "virtual" of what is created. The best work, since the dawn of cinema history, makes these disparate worlds indistinguishable--and that fantastic illusion compels me to be the avid cinemaphile that I am.

I have taught many digital art classes and enjoy the intricate and communicative components of good graphic design. Helping students understand aesthetic, perspective, color, typography, visual hierarchy, and balance is my greatest pleasure.

Autodesk Maya

I have been using Maya for over fifteen years in both professional studio environments as well as in the classroom. I am fluent in all aspects of the program including modeling, rigging, animation, materials, lighting, VFX, and rendering.

Computer Gaming

Having been raised on video games, from the Atari 2600 to the PS4, I always dreamed of moving from consumer to creator. My study of animation lead me to numerous opportunities to work on video games with designers and programmers alike. While I do not directly code or work in engines, I am thoroughly versed in the aesthetic and technical artistry of the gaming industry and teach modeling, rigging, and non-linear animation for video games. I am currently working as an animator for Little Genius Games on a spelling game for children.

Very knowledgable in the field! Able to connect with my student!!!

He helped my daughter, who is an animation major. He was great and she feels more confident! She was not getting the teaching she needed from her program, but had difficult assignments. I am thankful she could get the help she needs to succeed! Many Many thanks!!! Her Mom

The best!! Master of simplifying complex concepts!

We had a salsa lesson with Jason for our anniversary. He was amazing throughout the whole lesson. He does an outstanding job of breaking down the technical aspect and the why behind all the dances. Whether it be slowing it down or using analogies for us to understand, he made the dance concepts very straight forward! Highly suggest using Jason and we will definitely contact him again for future lessons!!!

Amazing teacher!!!

Jason helped me tremendously this semester. I really wouldn’t have survived without him, let alone done well in the course (Intro to 3D Animation)! He was patient, kind, and really good at explaining things I didn’t understand and walking me through the concepts. I can’t imagine working with anyone else and getting as great an experience I did. As grateful as I am to have finished my coursework, I’m sad my time with him has come to an end. I highly recommend working with him if you’re working with Maya, he not only helped me learn so much, but also made the whole thing quite fun! 100% recommend him to anyone who’s feeling lost regarding Maya and 3D modeling and animation. Thanks so much, Jason!!

confidence building!

My high school-aged daughter took a summer course at a college in Maya but given the short time, she was unable to finish and perfect her animation. She didn't have the skills to finish all alone and didn't touch it again for over a year. As more time went on, she was discouraged she didn't learn the right things and couldn't finish her work and all was for nothing. Jason saw some sample work online and her current Maya skills and complimented her on her work. Positive reinforcement is exactly what she needed at this time, and she is now very self-motivated to finish her video for a college application portfolio. His experience not only in Maya but online tutoring really shows. Highly recommend.

Amazing Animator and Teacher

Jason was stellar and we had 2 incredibly efficient sessions. I was stuck in two projects and he instantly understood what I was trying to accomplish. These two sessions saved me 20 hours of struggling alone with Maya.

Very patient and knowledgeable

I failed a college class because I just couldn't understand the 3D modeling program (Maya). Everyone told me I just needed to figure it out on my own because there just wasnt any other way too. Well I tried, failed and panicked. I just had my first session with Jason and I'm excited to meet again and learn more. Such a huge relief to know I'm not alone in this !!

Very interesting Lesson

We had another great lesson. I learnt a lot quickly and Jason explained every step thoroughly. Really appreciate the tutorial videos he does during our lessons. It's wonderful to be able to look back at what we learnt and practice. Looking forward to the next!
