I am a masters student in Classics at the University of Chicago. I did my undergraduate degrees at UC Berkeley with a double major in Philosophy and German. University of Chicago and UC Berkeley are commonly ranked among the top 10 universities in the world. During Community College I did Spanish 1-4, getting an A in both Spanish 3 and 4. I also took an Ancient Greek intensive course at UC Berkeley and got an A-. I have years of tutoring experience in many subjects such as English, German, Spanish, Ancient Greek, as well as essay writing.

I've studied multiple languages for several years and have done very well in all the language classes I've taken. I also provide my students with learning materials that explain complicated grammatical structures in simple graphs. Another thing I provide my students are good songs from the target language with lyric pages that have English translations on one side.

I love teaching languages and have a lot of fun doing it. I've studied Spanish, German, Ancient Greek, in school and Latin and Biblical Hebrew on my own, so I know how to master a language from scratch. My focus in teaching a language is to have the student actually speak it and build on the parts of the language they can already speak. So I begin by giving the student a rudimentary conversational command of the language and then we build on that foundation through talking, listening, music, writing, and reading. I am also very good with pronunciation and so I know how to get my students sounding like native speakers.

Approved Subjects

German

German

I have been studying German for 10 years and have been tutoring it for 8 years. I have taken German 1-4 in college and various other classes about German and in German for my bachelors degree. I also have lots of German learning materials like verb charts and flashcards to help my students learn the language. So far I have tutored around 20 people in the German language.
Greek

Greek

I've been teaching German and Spanish for 8 years, and 4 years ago I started learning Ancient Greek intensely. When I attended UC Berkeley to do a double major in Philosophy and German, I voluntarily took an 8 unit intensive course on Ancient Greek that covered both the first and second levels of the language and received an A-. I also have many different learning materials for the language including my own textbook that I wrote by myself using actual sentences by Ancient Greek authors like Plato, Aristotle, Aristophanes, and the New Testament portion of the Bible. I have had three Ancient Greek students so far and still have one of them today. The other two students hired be for a few months where as my current Ancient Greek student, Kristopher Gage MD of Sanford Health, has been working with me for over a year.
Latin

Latin

After finishing my Latin and Greek masters at the University of Chicago, I've translated countless texts, taught Latin at a Catholic institution, made videos on Latin, and tutored a variety of students in the language.
Spanish

Well prepared and completely competent Greek tutor.

Brian was able to help me understand the specific Greek grammatical rule from a verse in the Bible. His presentation was very through and left no doubt in mind. I would trust Brian as a Greek tutor if I were to ever want to expand my knowledge of the language.

Exquisite Instruction and Remarkable Background

This individual does an exemplary job explaining intricate concepts in a brief amount of time. I was quite impressed with both the presentation style and command of the material. The best option for many subjects.

Great German Review

Brian truly cares if his students grasp the material and will take as much time as needed to make sure his students grasp the material. Couldn't ask for a better German tutor.

...he's that guy in class that's REALLY into it

He always has a plan, and repeats bits from the last couple of lessons. I don't have too much time to study between sessions, but I can tell I am making progress! :)
