For the past two years, I have been involved as an AmeriCorps member. My role has been tutoring Head Start Parents with ESL classes. I have accrued 22 college credits this past school year, with a GPA of 3.3; I am enrolled in a community college in Associates of Arts Program. I have participated in the Martin Luther King Service Day in 2014 and 2015 and received a MLK Day of Service Award.
In the year of 2014 I was recognized as the Tutor of the Year by the Center for Literacy of the University of Illinois at Chicago. This year, 2015, I was given the Spotlight on Service Award by the Secretary of State/Illinois State Library Office and the Illinois Press Association. I have presented at LVI Conferences "On the Road to Literacy in April 2014 and 2015, and at the 17th Annual New Readers of New Life Conference in November 2014. I have attended the Northern Region Adult Education Conference in November, 2014.
