The best teachers make an effort to identify and accommodate the specific learning needs of each of their students. While the logistical realities of the school system render such a method impractical under most circumstances, the one-on-one tutoring format gives me the leeway to adapt to each student's particular learning style in order to best meet their needs.

I have a demonstrated expertise in all genres of writing, reading comprehension, grammar, vocabulary, and syntax. I also guarantee that I can help you adequately prepare for the Reading, Writing, and Science sections of the ACT, SAT, PSAT, and other pre-college standardized tests. I am also committed to doing whatever I can to cultivate my students' critical thinking skills, and so all of my lessons, regardless of subject matter, are designed with that in mind.

I believe that a good education is the single most valuable tool that a human being can possess, and I promise that should you choose to hire me, I will do my utmost to help you achieve your educational goals.

Philosophy

Philosophy

Studying an issue without first looking at the philosophical framework it's based on is like starting a sentence in the middle. All aspects of modern life are rooted in philosophical ideas that inform how we engage with the outside world - whether we're aware of this process or not. I'll be only too happy to talk more about this in person.
Psychology

Psychology

I'm a Psychology major, an experienced research assistant, and have also done an extensive amount of outside reading about the field, and that experience has lead me to conclude that Psychology may be the science that is most applicable to daily life. Social Psychology in particular offers quite a bit of insight into why people do what they do, and why different people do things differently.
World History

World History

While frequently stigmatized as nothing but "memorization and regurgitation," history is in fact one of the most practical and applicable fields of study. No topic can be fully understood without knowledge of the context, and history is the context of all of modern life. Every conflict, political scenario, cultural perspective, etc. is based on past events and long established cultural attitudes. Unless you acquaint yourself with this context, you simply cannot claim to truly understand the topic in question.
Writing

Writing

Virtually every professional field requires employees to engage in some form of writing. Therefore, it is essential that students effectively prepare for this eventuality. As an award-winning writer, and a veteran of multiple academic, creative, and rhetorical writing genres, I can help you do so.
