Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have a Master's degree in education from National Louis University, I have taught in elementary school for over 20 years and have been a tutor for over five years. I I am licensed to teach in the state of Illinois.

Elementary Math

I have worked as a math and science teacher and math/science coach for over twenty years. I am an adjunct professor In math methods. I have tutored children who believe math is 'not for them' and have had success in giving them the confidence to believe they can do math by breaking down concepts into manageable 'chunks.' I have experience with math dyscalculia. I think with the right approach, the willingness to keep trying different methods and imparting to the student and parents that progress in math is attainable, my students can learn and be excited by their own achievement.

Social Studies

I have an undergraduate degree in history from the University of Missouri-Columbia and a Master's degree in education from National Louis University. I am licensed to teach in Illinois and am endorsed in social studies. I have taught in elementary schools for over twenty years and have taught social studies, including history, geography, civics, political systems and economic systems.

Very well prepared

Laura helped my son with an annotation assignment. She had read the book and done a lot of preparing ahead of time, reviewed themes and symbols with him, and helped him with a well organized plan to meet the requirements. She is clearly a very experienced teacher, encouraging, thoughtful, and efficient. Would definitely recommend.
