Education is my passion, and with over twenty years in the field, I’ve had the privilege of working in teaching, tutoring, and mentorship roles. I have supported the academic growth of thousands of students across elementary, high school, university, and private tutoring settings. Believing firmly that education is the pathway to opportunity, my aim is to help students break barriers hindering their academic progress, and empower them to reach their full potential.

My tutoring services span a diverse range of subjects: algebra, statistics, calculus, precalculus, geometry, biology, chemistry, probability, English language arts, reading, writing, and a broad range of test preparations for standardized exams, including ACT, SAT, and AP exams. My tutoring approach is both engaging and effective, with each session tailored to meet the individual needs of the student, and planned to ensure maximum success.

With a positive and motivational aura, I hold high academic expectations for students. It is in my experience that, with patience, practice, and effort, students gain tremendous confidence and experience significant academic improvement after my tutoring sessions.

I hold a Master of Arts in Teaching from Calumet College of St. Joseph, and a Bachelor of Science in Integrative Biology from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. My graduate education program has greatly enhanced my ability to teach and tutor effectively. The skills and knowledge I gained from these programs have allowed me to develop more effective teaching strategies, better understand student needs, and create an engaging learning environment. I apply these insights to help each student achieve outstanding academic success.

Outside of tutoring, I enjoy learning Swedish, practicing the piano, reading for leisure, exploring nature centers, volunteering, and spending time with friends and family. The balance between hobbies and professional responsibilities continues to inspire my efforts and strengthen my impact as an educator.

Algebra 1

My experience in tutoring algebra and other math subjects is rich! I have been employed multiple years in both colleges and elementary schools teaching and tutoring students in math and science. Over the last seven years I have tutored hundreds of students in math, from children to adults. I have received many awards and certificates for excellence in tutoring. I have also received extensive tutoring training that highly qualifies me to help students with learning disabilities succeed in math.
Biology

Biology

Biology is my passion! I currently hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, and have a strong appreciation for the life sciences. I have a deep understanding of every biological concept you are likely to come across in a biology course. I have tutored hundreds of high school and college students in biology over the last seven years. I am highly qualified and capable to discuss any biological science topic at an advanced level.
Chemistry

Chemistry

As a biology major during college, I had to take many chemistry courses. In fact, a great amount of biology actually requires a strong understanding of chemistry. Over the last seven years I have tutored hundreds of high school and college students in chemistry.
Elementary Math

Elementary Math

I have a tremendous amount of experience teaching and tutoring Elementary Math. For multiple years I have worked in elementary and grammar schools with the sole responsibility of helping academically struggling schools increase their math scores. Regardless of one's dialect or educational background, I am highly qualified to prepare him or her to immediately begin speaking and writing with perfect English grammar.
Genetics

Genetics

I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, and have conducted genetics research at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. A genetics course was one of the required core courses for my major. Also, most of the courses I have taken in biological science covered varying amounts of genetics instruction and overlap. Finally, genetics is my most fascinating discipline of biology, and I have spent a great amount of time interpreting genetics concepts and solving application problems. Finally, I have years of experience tutoring biology, in which genetics problems have come up.
Praxis

Praxis

While many states take Praxis, Illinois has its own basic skills diagnostic test for prospective teachers via the Illinois Licensure Testing System (ILTS) called TAP (Test of Academic Proficiency). This exam is similar to the Praxis exam administered through other states. I have successfully passed the TAP and have aided other students with both exams.

Knowledgeable and engaging tutor

James has worked on a number of subjects with my son and he's always engaging and breaks the material down in a way that allows him to understand and ask more questions.

Born to teach!

Spectacular tutor with a passion for teaching and learning! Fully invested in his students’ success and interested in the whole student! Asks relevant background questions to find strengths and weakness and also motivation. Is encouraging and uplifting and celebrates my son successes no matter how son. Get it, knows how important confidence is and aims to build it in the subject matter with his students! Gives practice and pertinent information and notes to ensure improvement and minimize gaps.. More importantly, constructs his lessons based on the type of student he has. He truly cares. He is the utmost professional, razor sharp like expert in the subject matter. James is so personable which allows him to connect extremely fast and is likable to his students! My kid loves working with him and even doing the practice work. He feels safe and comfortable enough to ask questions, be honest when he did not do something, and not feel embarrassed by James’ reaction.

Knowledgeable and kind

James is an excellent tutor. He explains chemistry in a way that my child not only understand it, but also seems to get excited about learning it. He is very accommodating to our time schedule. I schedule sessions with him last minute and he makes himself available. He brings material for my child to give her more of a clear understanding of what she is learning in school. I would highly recommend him. My child feels safe and comfortable working with James. I’m so glad I was able to find him to be her tutor.
