Dear Student,
I have a strong desire to teach chemistry, especially organic chemistry and I have been teaching at the college level for the last ten years. I have worked as a graduate teaching assistant in chemistry with more emphasis in organic chemistry. I am a trained organic chemist with a Ph.D and have taught students with varying backgrounds ranging from college freshmen to seniors, post-baccalaureates and professionals. I have taught students who are pre-meds, chemistry majors, nursing and engineering as well as other majors who are taking the MCAT exam and need tutoring in chemistry. I understand that teaching to specific needs of the students can encourage and enable their success, and prevent failure that might jeopardize the future of the students.
I have had extensive experience in the classroom both as a student and as a Teaching Assistant which has provided an opportunity to think about the effectiveness of various teaching strategies. It is certainly possible for one to have an excellent grasp of a topic yet have poor teaching skills. This may cause some of the students to drop the class or just ended up failing while those who barely passed ended up resenting the subject of chemistry. Even though students are themselves responsible for learning and understanding the subject, the way it is presented to them can make all the difference in the world, and that is the responsibility of the teacher. My goal is to set an academic environment that is conducive for every student to feel free to air his or her questions which fosters and maximizes student participation.
Finally, my aim is to ensure that students from all backgrounds are able to understand the subject of chemistry especially organic chemistry and attain greater heights through the knowledge that they have gained from me and which they will use to serve the society and communities as they go forward.
