I have a Ph.D. Degree on mathematical computer science. Had taught college math courses at UIC.

Computer Programming

I learned programming with C at college, then database management SQL, HTML, Javascript, CSS to create dynamic website. In graduate school, I received a Master's degree in computing, and was introduced to many programming languages (C++, Jave, Perl, PHP, etc.). In my opinion, programming languages are tools, what matters the most is the programming logic. I also learned parallel programming with MPI(Message Passing Interface) in Linux.

MATLAB

Matlab is a software package which is used in numerical computing field. In Matlab, everything is treated as Matrix. I have used Matlab on course projects such numerical analysis. Also, I have written a Matlab interface to a software package used to solve polynomial systems. Matlab is very convenient for working with large data sets. Since the basic data structure in Matlab is matrix, one needs to understand that matrix is basically array of numbers, symbols, or expressions represented in rows and columns. Operations in Matlab include addition, multiplication, transpose, inverse, etc. To perform computation, we need to know how to represent a linear system by using matrix operations, and how to solve the system. Matrix decomposition (an example is LU decomposition) are important in computing. We would like to rewrite a matrix in other forms, then some problems will be easier to solve. With background in mathematics & computer science, I have the knowledge and the ability to tutor this subject.

Oracle

Oracle is rational database management system. PL/SQL stands for Procedural Language extension of SQL. Oracle uses PL/SQL statements to retrieve data from a databse, the statements are processed by a PL/SQL engine. A PL/SQL code can be stored in the client system (client-side) or in the database (server-side). Some concepts like cursors, functions and stored procedures can be used in other database systems with some change in syntax. I passed two Oracle exams in the DBA track and I am Oracle certified. I have the knowledge and ability to tutor Oracle PL/SQL.

I have a Ph.D. in Mathematical Computer Science. Have worked as a database developer for many years, use SQL everyday.
